I had a mobile service appointment today and got to chatting up the tech. He shared some interesting items, that he called ‘internal rumors’ that I figured this community would be interested in hearing,

I’ll state the obvious: this should all be taken with a large grain of salt, but I’ll let you decide how much stock to put in it.

Internal rumor 1: the upcoming battery pack changes will include an upgrade to 800V architecture

Internal rumor 2:
the battery pack changes may introduce LFP cells BEYOND being used for the standard pack. I.e. the large pack might also get LFP.

Internal rumor 3:
a new quad motor variant will be introduced with the Enduro motors (which will all knew/expected) AND they’re targeting a 0-60 of 2.4 seconds.

I find some of these a bit surprising. So surprising, I can’t help feel that he may have been pulling my leg. But he genuinely seemed to be conveying the internal rumors. ?‍♂

I’ll leave it to all of you to decide what to take away from all this.

Those all seem like logical steps forward. I mean the Dual Performance has 700hp if I remember correctly. So even if they scaled the new enduro quad back it still could easily be over 1000hp and probably closer to 1200hp. That should easily put the time close to 2.4. Then the rumors of weight loss program that would also help make it faster. LFP would be interesting but it could be a density issue for the large pack.

I am looking forward to the improvements. I would probably jump to the new quad if it was 800v and other improvement.

The more powerful quad motor has been rumored for awhile so I think that is probably a go. I’ve heard the question with that is whether it will only be offered in a “premium” trim.

The other rumors just popped up recently so who knows, but they sound believable. We know they were already working on 800v for the future. Maybe it‘s ready to roll??‍♂

Over the weekend, I told my wife that the Rivian could be the last car I ever buy.

She laughed at me. But I was serious.

Now reading this, I can still say that “a” Rivian would be the last car I ever buy, but it may be an 800V, longer-range, 1200HP quad motor Rivian vs. my pitiful, simple and slow R1T QM.

So I still win on a technicality, which in marriage, is all that really matters.

I'm worried they'll price the new quad as high as the CyberBeast, which would be out of my desired price range. But, then I wouldn't have to worry about deciding between the Quad and Dual. :-/

Buy the exact same combination and she'll never notice.

Isn't it already about the same pricing? I expect if these rumours are all true it could end up somewhere in the $130k range. Hummer EV pricing ends up around that when you upgrade it all the way. If it's much more than that, it'll be hard to convince me the upgrade is worth it.

I'm just surprised a tech would know :)
They have to have extensive systems training prior to any feature release. Do you think they start training techs after the marketing team announces a change? I would argue the techs are the best people to be in the know, outside of C-Level execs.

I'm currently configured for a QM at $90k. $10k matters. :)
