You don’t have to wait for plates. Once you get he car submit with the temporary plate ASAP, then once real plates come send in a plate change application (Free).

You are only allowed to be solo in the carpool lanes if you have the stickers in CA. They are only valid for a specific time frame and then expire. My Tesla no longer qualifies as those stickers expired.

A ticket for using carpool lanes when not authorized can exceed $450 so I would not recommend getting in one without the stickers.

Incentivizing access to the HOV based on one’s ability to purchase a new EV seems like a slippery slope. I’m guessing there’s an enterprising fake sticker market. I’m curious why an order tesla no longer qualifies.

Would you mind sharing how you put them on with magnets? I have some that I will only occasionally use and am looking for a solution like that since they are so hideous looking. Thanks!

I use a PPF-type material that I bought off Amazon....precut to the stickers. I can pull it off after they expire and it won't ruin the paint or bumper.

The one thing I hate is that we can't choose the color of the sticker. We have the R1T in Rivian Blue and it would look better with the sticker if it was yellow.....nope.....we got green.

Someone explain the need for this sticker. Don’t the cops know what qualifies? Seems like a gimmick to encourage EV sales that will fail when there are too many EVs in the HOV.

It isn't only for EV's, it also applies to PHEVs. We have stickers for our RAV4 Prime.

California also has this on certain freeways. You need an RFID tag called a FastTrak and can use that in some HOV lanes (not all of them have FastTrak sensors). My understanding is the stickers let an individual into any HOV lane, including those on smaller highways, on ramps, etc.

Forget about the income requirement and submit the form for the HOV sticker. Like SANZCO2 said, you need to wait for your plate before submitting the form.

One thing that you don't want to do is, from personal experience, don't stick it on a cut-to-size PPF and then stick it onto your car with PPF. It didn't stick too well and it came off in a touchless carwash; it was good that I tested it with a single rear one first so I only lost one.

For those folks who signed binding purchase agreements and then amended tax returns with the old $7500 tax rebate using 8/15/22 as date placed in service, what date did you use for purchase date on the CA HOV application?

I’m concerned about putting anything inconsistent about purchase date out there on legal paperwork that might jeopardize the federal rebate!

I used the CA registration date for my sticker application. I signed the binding contract but picked up my vehicle in January, it was 79k and I kept my income for 2023 under the cap so I will take my 7500 tax credit for 2023 and not use the binding contract for 2022.

I've just applied the stickers to my last 4 EV's and I planned on doing the same once they arrive for the Rivian. What's the benefit, if any, other than maybe not wanting to attach stickers to the car, of having removal ones?

I use vinyl underneath and put the HOV stickers on top, when the stickers expire, it is easy to peel it off

I ordered the Slap Pass magnets, then found out it only sticks to the back and no where on the front. Haven’t had the need to use it yet, but will just stick the back ones on and roll the dice.
