This isn’t true at all. The nav. uses Google map tiles because they are free (just like Tesla). Google also gives out free POI search because it helps them gather relevancy data for their ads business. Google loves to track you just like everyone else. They really love to know where you want to go.I don't understand these problems... Routing is calculated by Google. Even if MapBox has inaccurate streets, the initial route is set by Google which we all know is probably perfect.
Google won’t give out the street graph and navigation/routing unless the OEM goes for the whole Android Automotive ecosystem, like Volvo did. So just like Tesla, Rivian uses MapBox and tries some homebrew shit turn by turn on top of it. But the road data is terrible, the traffic data is terrible and the models/algorithms on top of it are also terrible.
Even when Google and Rivian agree, the ETAs produced by Rivian are usually way too optimistic.
