Completely agree. It is beyond frustrating that these handles advertise an unlocked vehicle. Prox unlock should kick-in when a locked handles is pulled, like on my Porsche. There needs to be an option to not present handles
I have been wondering if the extension/retraction motors couldn't just be disabled electrically (cutting the motor wire for example), and the handles function normal otherwise.

It is possible and available in car wash mode.

I just received my vehicle, so I am still trying to figure out the automatic unlock as you walk towards your vehicle and automatic lock as you walk away from your vehicle. I don’t know if it senses the app on my iPhone, but it gets kind of annoying when I’m going to get mail since the car is on the driveway. Do most of you turn this feature off ?

Most turn it off at home only.

I've started using the "lock while home" feature, after leaving the truck unlocked in the driveway multiple times. Works well for me.
Same. This works best for me, as well. Whether I leave the truck in the driveway or in the garage. Get out, walk inside, the truck locks. And none of that annoying "unlock every time I walk by it in the garage" stuff. When I'm ready to leave and actually go somewhere, I unlock with phone or fob.

Edit: And anywhere that's not home (e.g., walking towards the truck with an armload of groceries) it's unlocked by the time I get to it.

Ok I’m dumb. How do I turn off the sensing the phone? I thought I have to turn on the phone and launch the app for it to recognize my phone? Even if my phone is turned off, it will sense it when I walk toward it and unlock. I can’t figure how to shut it off from my phone settings?

where is the “lock while home” feature (car is on driveway) and won’t it still sense the key fob or phone when you walk by your driveway?

@Oldsmobile_Mike how does the vehicle know where is “home” vs anywhere else?

It's configured in the settings. You tell it where home is and it's able to geo-locate itself.

Same as with the recently-added functionality to open a garage door. As soon as I pull up to the front of my house, I'll get a notification on the display to push the steering wheel button if I'd like to open my garage door.

These vehicles are smart. They know where they are pretty much all the time. Even if Alexa sometimes give terrible directions. ?

@Oldsmobile_Mike this is what I see. Why is it that my IPhone and key fob is turned off but the proximity locking is still turned on? Shouldn’t proximity locking automatically turn off if both the keys are turned off?

And under the “location behavior at home” if I put “lock only” does that mean it will only sense my keys and lock it only but not unlock it when I walk by?

I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish but in my opinion all of those settings are wrong. I would turn on proximity locking for phone, fob, and change "lock behavoior at home" to "lock only". That's what I would recommend, imho:

Anyone know once I set my address how do I go back in and delete it? I don’t see an option to delete once I set it.

@Oldsmobile_Mike so with these settings, let’s see if I understand. This means when I get home and park my vehicle on the driveway, it will automatically sense my iPhone or key fob and lock the vehicle as I walk away. But if I walk past it again, say to get the mail or pick up a package, it will NOT ever unlock even if I have my iPhone and key fob on me? Then I will have to manually open up my iPhone and launch the Rivian app to unlock the vehicle when I need to leave (or press unlock on the key fob)

But anywhere else other than home, it will automatically unlock as I walk toward it and lock as I walk away?

Yes, that is correct. Exactly what mine does. Make sure you have the app set to run "all the time". Whatever the iPhone equivalent of this is:

Edit: I believe iPhone supports widgets. So maybe you don't have to open app to unlock? Android version of app does not have that feature yet so am not certain. But worth searching on forum. ?

Edit 2: Will be really cool when this supports smart watches. E.g., don't need phone or fob - unlock with a button or proximity of your watch. Afaik no smart watches are supported --- Yet.

I don’t see the above option in the iPhone app for some reason. I think it senses my Rivian app even if I have my iphone locked

What’s the purpose of unrestricted?

My Ford had a capacitive sensor in the grip part of each handle and another sensor with raised lines (like the charge port open/close on Rivian) next to the handle. As long as you had a fob with you, you simply grabbed the handle and the door unlocked. When leaving, you’d touch the raised lines to immediately lock. It reacted instantly and there was no unintended unlocking or locking because the vehicle was never guessing what you wanted to do; it just did what you told it to do.
The BMW i3 works exactly the same way.. touch the inside of the door handle the vehicle unlocks, touch the IIII lines on the outside of the door handle the vehicle locks. It's so simple/natural it's stupid easy to use! I prefer that over the Model 3 door handles and much more than the Rivian self-presenting door handles.
