Seems like good news if they are ready for Ford in February you would think Rivian by March or so. Since the hardware needs to be ready for Ford in February it would just be a software update for Rivian meaning one day we all wake up and have access...

This is great news. 2 third party adapters are already planned to be available in January. Hoping Rivian will get access in March!

I'm just hoping this creates more spots at the other chargers I use...

Quite curious how a slow rollout (a year-ish before everyone else gets access?) is supposed to stop the chargers from being overwhelmed when they aren't rapidly advancing their rollout of new stations. Does this mean they might delay other companies getting access if they do get swamped right away?

My guess is they are concerned more about swamping the tech centers with service calls more than swamping the Supercharger stations. Slow rollouts usually are more about ability for tech support.

Yeah, it is the smart way to go. Having everyone obtain access at the same time is asking for trouble like... well choose your example (boarding an airplane, getting into a sporting event, trying to get tickets for a Taylor Swift Concert). If someone calls for help, the first question would be which of these 8 brands and dozens of vehicles do you have? Just saying "they are now open!" would get you people showing up with EVs that haven't agreed with Tesla. This way, everyone will hear Ford and GM for a while, then Rivian, then another, etc.

As much as I want it and I want it now this gives me confidence that things will be successful and it won't be a mess. Hopefully, this will also allow Tesla to watch what chargers are popular and quickly expand or make sure they can do more maintenance. Remember that Telsa has an idea where all their vehicles are, but probably doesn't have much information on where other brands are and which charger locations are going to see a big increase in demand (aside from cities, holiday travel, etc).

Wonder how they're deciding the order? I have a hunch Tesla puts Rivian at the back of the line if they are contractually able to.

My one question is what speeds will the adapter support? I ask because the Magic Dock I tried maxed out at 150kw. On the RAN I've hit speeds above 200kw and this does allow a much quicker charge.
