Anyone know if there's a showroom in Vaughan we can visit? I'd like to show the inside of the R1S to the wife before buying it lol
I’ve visited twice in the past two days. The building was locked to the public while I was there, during business hours. That being said, both days I had Rivian emloyees approach me while I was outside walking around to ask if they could help in any way, and offered to open a vehicle for me to look at without even asking. Super awesome folks who were excited to show off the vehicles. Shout out to ‘T’ in particular (not putting his full name out of respect), who went above and beyond to help me out. Great dude!

From a picture posted earlier, I recognized one Rivian employee as previously being a great long time Tesla Yorkdale showroom salesperson. So it looks like they are making some great hires.

Well, picked up my Launch Green R1S (from the R1 shop) earlier today, and the delivery couldn't have gone smoother. Rivian staff were at the door waiting for us to arrive, paperwork was ready, one quick signature and then off to the truck to get the exterior and interior walk through. Our rep was very friendly and thorough, if not a little green. She had the walkthrough down pat, but didn't really know EVs or the truck beyond that (asked me if we were new EV owners, I said that we had a Model S, and she asked what brand that was). I later asked about the build date and whether it had one or two 12V batteries and she said that she'd go in and look at the paperwork (I showed her where to find the sticker with the build date on the inner driver B pillar and explained the March 2023 design change). Certainly not a complaint, many of us have been reading up on these trucks for years, just gave me a chuckle.

Anyway, was a little worried that the 20XXX VIN indicated a previously rejected order. It is an August build but the truck is perfect. I'd read horror stories of panel gaps and poorly attached seals / trim, but I haven't found anything. There's obviously been a lot of thought put into the design of these things and the build quality is great. Comparing it to my 2019 Model S, the fit and finish on the R1S is far superior. Needless to say, I'm a very happy Rivian owner at this point. Those of you still waiting, be patient, definitely worth the wait!

Mine was built in January 2023! I haven't check the batteries but I have a meridian sound system.

Funny I brought it to my friend who owned the first model s in Canada and roadster. He has a model s still.

He looked it over sat in and was absolutely shocked. He loved it.

Oh my delivery person it was her first time. I definitely knew more than her but that was expected. I think she did a great job.

I'd be nervous as hell if it was my first time doing a delivery to one of us die hards as well.

January and Meridian, I suspect that you’ll have the two 12V batteries. No biggee, I was just curious as one of my first jobs will be to upgrade the 12V (I had mine go on the MS and it bricks the car!).

Similar experience on my end, I brought the R1S to my buddy who is a die hard Tesla owner (3 Tesla family with a Cybertruck on the way), and he too was blown away. Aside from the size and the ride height compared to his X, he couldn’t believe the fit and finish for a relatively new startup. Rivian’s definitely on the right path.

Saw an r1t going eastbound on the 401 around Whitby this afternoon...which one of you was it?
I picked mine up yesterday, but went north, wasn't me.

I'm very impressed with the first few drives. it is so well behaved on the roads. I took it for a short drive this morning with my youngest son and did the "bumpy" roads near our place and it was so smooth compared to our jeep.

Anyone with an R1S in Mississauga, Oakville or Burlington wanna do a good deed & drop by in Oakville to see if this thing fits in my garage. I've measured but I have my doubts about clearance with the actual garage door when it's up lol

So, you want to find out sooner than later if you need to build a new garage? Or perhaps buy a new place? :)

Loool wish either of those were in the cards ? dropped by today and they had what I would want as a config on the lot... definitely tempting!

My guide told me a few days ago he didn’t think the green plates would be allowed for the R1T in Ontario at this point. Apparently over the weight limit but the r1s was ok.
My F150 Lightning Platinum got green plates (7000lbs) so I’m sure the R1T will eventually.

Hi all,

I also gained R1 shop access and saw a few Launch Green R1S. I'm tempted in getting a launch edition like yours. It was mentioned the March 2023 design change related the batteries. What's the change that we should be concerned? I've tried searching online but find it challenging to understand the impact of this design change.

Are post-March 2023 vehicles considered to have newer and better design? Thank you in advance for your help. Any insight or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Nezha, Rivian’s made before March 2023 had two 12v batteries. They experienced some issues with dead batteries which, like an ICE car, render the car undriveable until changed. Here’s some detail on it:

https://www.autoevolution.com/news/...olt-battery-for-newer-r1-vehicles-216823.html

It’s important to note that these 12V batteries power auxiliary systems and are unrelated to the expensive high voltage battery pack that the car uses to power the drive motors. The 12Vs are pretty easy and inexpensive to replace. It’s an inconvenience more than anything as it is a critical failure that prevents the car from driving if you have a dead battery (at least it is in my Tesla).

Honestly, I wouldn’t worry too much about it and sorry if I got you second guessing the decision. If you found a car that you like in the R1 shop and are ready to buy, I wouldn’t sweat it. The Rivian is a great vehicle and the R1S I got in December was built in August 2023 so chances are that any one that you get now will have incorporated the change anyway.
