Installation of my FS spare was done by mobile...

If they would do better on the assembly line and final QC at Normal, the local SCs wouldn't be so underwater
The compact spare kit is all sold and installed via mobile service, as noted on the website. The only reason I had mine done at the SC is because it was already going there - roughly the same time the mobile service would have been so I requested the change.

Completely agree about QC at Normal. It is possible to increase production and improve QC at the same time. Looks like Rivian will have a chance at doing that when they shut down the line in April to simplify production.

Meanwhile, more SCs are desperately needed, especially in Rivian densely populated areas (e.g., SoCal, SeaTac, NY Tri-State areas). I also am aware that there are people in states with little to no SC so there's that too.

Maybe that is why the wait at Costa Mesa is so long? HQ has an insane amount of early gen Rivians, because at one point a perk of working there was $1000/mo towards your payment. Not sure if that is still going on, but I know someone who took advantage of that. All those early gen Rivians likely have issues like ours, and maybe get priority appointments?
The early gens are actually really well built. Almost like they got alot more QC before ramping up.

Wisconsin....needs a service center. I am on fence if I will replace mine with a new one if Chicago is my only option. And I am a Rivian nut job so I can only imagine that no service center is standing in way of sales in Wisconsin.

Or until they can add more locations, add a shift to existing ones. The real estate investment is already made there. Why have equipment and customer cars just sitting night after night?

Mechanically, yes, better...fit and finish was lacking, at least on all the ones I saw and have had experience with.

I have a 3xxx and my fit and finish was on par with a Lexus...and I am not kidding. I was pleasantly surprised when I got it...and actually impressed.

Early one was a 1500 vin....current is a 3600....you must have gotten the "A" team shift when yours was built. Lol.

That sucks! Sorry....

We've seen so many incidents of much worse done at SC's it seems a wise precaution to document the outside and inside of your vehicle sitting at the SC when you drop it off. We know Rivian takes photos some time after drop off to protect themselves against claims... seem owners need to do the same!
Absolutely should do this. Leart it the hard way at a Mazda dealer just north of Seattle.

All I know is I was impressed and that is after a long string of Lexus and Acura in my past. Gaps are all consistent. Paint is decent....not Lexus...but not bad.

3xxx from April 2022, so 3xxx off the line...line was moving slow back then.

Ha ha!

Rivian has a SC planned for Lake Forest (roughly Bake and Trabucco, near their engineering building), I was told by CM SC staff.
For their sake I hope this pans out and is fast tracked. There are a ton of Rivians in OC/LA, and 5 months out for an appointment in Costa Mesa does not bode well with anyone.

True and not true to an extent.

1st recall for the suspension issues where the wheel fell off was for early gens. New pedal recall is for early gens. Half shaft issues (which are probably the largest drain on SCs) are only on earlier gens, at least I heard they had it fixed sometime shortly after my VIN... Powered Tonneau issues were early gens.

While I agree that very early gen <2000 vin likely had better fit and finish quality control, they still are lumped in with the rest of the issues above that may not affect later gens.

Your points are all valid...I have a short memory!

My body work was top notch....paint...gaps...etc...not even wind noise.

But....your list is all true...although my tonneau still works.

Have you had the axle noises all addressed? I did once and all came back. Hoping to do washers or whatever down road....

I'll let you know after this next appointment! Prior to this point I haven't had any issues. Luckily, only my front left half shaft is making noise, but it has been for months now. I believe during the service they put the washers on all four corners though. We'll see how much success that brings. So far, I see mixed results reported on the forums.
