Drove through Lee Vining today and the Rivian folks were on site. Sounds like they are done but waiting on some paving work. He said by the end of February.

I probably won't ever use this station -- wrong side of the country -- but yay... right near the RV dump spot... I guess that's an amenity of sorts?

There is a Mobile station but it looked closed on a Tuesday morning so maybe seasonally. Bathrooms were open at least.

That's awesome to go across the Tioga pass. I wonder how the Groveland RAN is coming along.

I think there have been 2 RANs opened so far this year. At this rate we might get to double digits by the end of Q1. Amazing /s

Entirely possible there is a good reason Rivian seems to have slowed on the installs. Probably won't tell us about it.

yeah there could be. The reason could be access to the Tesla network. Kind of like what GM did when they took a big step back on their own network rollout.

It's 3 in 2024: Flagstaff, Phoenix, and Daytona Beach. Hays opened just 3 days before the new year.

You are correct. I was thinking 3 but typed 2. Hopefully more soon.
Either way, nowhere near what we want. For me, that's an average of 2-3 per week for the entire year. Yes, I want 200-300 new RAN sites opened in 2024. I don't think it's going to happen, but it's what I want. :)

Rivian is sending a mixed signal for sure. RJ says the Tesla/NACS situation doesn't change any of their strategic RAN plans. However, the rollout is not picking up pace at all. I would expect some exponential pace increases by now.

100% agree. Tesla has opened up at least 12 in the last week in NA. I would think Rivian would have been to 2-3 a week by now but they are nowhere near that. I do think they have eased up to focus on other things now that they are going to get Tesla access.

I will cut Rivian a little slack on openings in early January just because late December and early January have lots of holidays and breaks that could cause some delays/gaps in progress. But I would really like to start seeing that 2-3/week pace by now.

I've been more wondering if they are just working on a new revision to the hardware already, and it not strictly being NACS related but perhaps only tangentially. Like maybe they found an issue going over the 920V maximum of the CCS spec. NACS compliance would seem to require them to support up to 1000V. Tesla hasn't publicly demonstrated their v4 cabinets with that same support yet either.

yeah, could very well be. Maybe new cabinet design -- crossing fingers it's something like cross-cabinet load sharing. Maybe some other reliability or other design change.
