Large pack, 20" wheels.

So they are guessing my efficiency at 2.27. Which is worse than i was getting on that trip because i had all seasons on.

I just drove up from Houston, Texas to western NY and i averaged 1.91 the standard A/T's.

The first picture is my trip meter when i arrived at the RAN on 7/29

"As you can see via the session breakdown, 135kWh went to the battery.
I hate Twitter in general and especially hate how it handles threads.

Here's the thread summary--let me know if I made transcription errors.

One thing I noticed is that the Rivian screen only reported 1.4 kWh delivered from 95-100% which doesn't make sense.

Rivian clearly wants you to unplug after 70%.

Per Rivian session summary page:

137.4 kWh Total

Per EA session summary page:
147.568 kWh total

Thanks for the table!

Yeah agree that the 95-100% gap seems weird if only less than 2kwh.

For me, my biggest appeal for the max pack has been how fast can it get x miles. (Not necessarily % SoC).

While this is just one instance, I’m pleased to see the max pack can get 287 miles in 38 minutes! Thats quite fast. Grab some food, etc and go

My problem with the x miles metric is if they came to the EPA number the same way as the large pack.... which it does not appear they did. That means that not all miles are created equal and quite likely a max pack mile is only worth .9 large pack miles (or some other non-equal derivative).

Edit: and the energy delivery from 95-100 would make sense if the pack was focused on balancing. And that would be really disturbing to know that a brand new max pack can get enough out of balance so close to being new so as to require such a noticeable lag.

I was very impressed with the range on a trip to the Pittsburgh area. It was roughly 70% highway, the rest mostly overland with very little city and I was practically always aiming for 5 to 10mph over the speed limit, except for the last 100 miles of highway where I stuck to the speed limit (limit was mostly 70, some 65 very little 55). Left Wednesday with 410 miles and returned Friday with 2miles remaining. Conditions where ideal, not much heat and no A/C needed, practically no wind. Total trip distance was 359miles and had I observed the speed limit on the entire trip, I think I could have been close to 410miles (21" street tires, 3 passengers and on the return leg I had medium size crate in the bed that was likely creating some drag =>2.66m/kwh).

2.66 x 142 kWh = 378 miles. A little more than it looks like you had based on the GOM, but not too far off. Could you have driven 20 miles after hitting 0% SoCD? Inquiring minds want to know.

Only one way to find out. I might just load up my portable generator and drive around the neighborhood when I'm down to fumes next time around. Not sure what this would prove - it's not applicable in the real world...

It was actually only .5kwh from 90-100%

Only 1.4kwh from 92-100.
Looks like not much value in charging past 90% even if you thought you needed it.

Thank you Herb for your very valuable trip review and efficiency evaluation regarding your Max Pack R1T!

IT stuff
Had my dual motor for 3 weeks or so. Haven't been able to drive it much, the return trip I went from 100 percent to 23 on a 237 mile trip, 75 percent freeway where I was going 80mph. I did have ideal conditions with a 12mpg tailwind the whole way and Temps were 72 degrees so didn't need any cabin cooling or heating. I loved the range as I've taken this trip many times before and always had to charge mid way.
Off road I cannot compare it to the quad but the instant torque is incredible, handled deep ruts and wet slimey hillsides no problem. Hope to do some more 4 wheeling in the u.p. soon. Pass poor mpg on screens hot is due to lots of phantom drain.
Thanks for the info. Sorry if I missed it, but which battery do you have, and what size wheels are you running?

EPA paperwork says 149kWh, so yeah, maybe I could have gone an extra 20 miles

Unless I missed a correction, it has been widely discussed in this forum that the usable capacity of the Max Pack is 142 kWh. The full capacity with unavailable buffer is 149 kWh.

The Max Pack is 141 kWh usable per Rivian's website:
