the suspension is going to be more traditional, no flashlight, camp speaker, air compressor, in-house drivetrain, smaller battery, smaller wheels/tires, simpler network architecture and simpler design/materials on the interior. i think they will get to $45-50k for a base version. This seems accurate. But then that begs the question of how are they going to achieve that and still be under the $50k price point? Smaller battery alone won't do it? They need to cut like $30k+ cost out of the R1. This seems too similar to the R1 to accomplish that.
If the R2 is not under $50k (really needs to be closer to $40k), then Rivian is going to have some serious issues. The market (and stock) is expecting this to be very affordable. If they miss that mark, I feel that the stock will take another huge hit and the company may not even survive to see the R2 hit the roads.
Ok, I love all the Star Wars references… but I never could have imagined that I would see the day where I could get a perfect reference to the classic 1960s movie “The Russians Are Coming” on RivianForums. Well played @NY_Rob. I was with you before I even realized there was a link. It's got a driver side mirror! It's got a driver side mirror!
That's absolutely fantastic!!!!! Order place today! ?
This is what you tell everybody on Thurs/reveal day:
"Emergency! emergency! ... everybody to get from street!"
I'd be shocked at front wheel drive. That would suck and no reason to do that.My above post was just about body style. Below are my old predictions about the R2 overall:
Why not? R1 platform is already front wheel drive oriented, Quad when in conserve and Dual motor pretty much all the time unless you are accelerating from stand still.I'd be shocked at front wheel drive. That would suck and no reason to do that.
Right... look at the BMW, Audi, Jag, etc... their models are the click / drag to scale. Same styling cues, etc... just larger/smaller versions. My XF, XE, XJ were the same damn car just scaled up and down. It makes a lot of sense.Pretty sure the spoiler is there. But looks like no split tailgate. Other than that, it's a R1 mini-me so far (which is not a bad thing IMO).
5.5 sec 0-60 in a front wheel drive 4Runner sized, Landcruiser weight vehicle is going to suck. Torque steer, tire wear, traction, towing and performance will be horrible. FWD is fine when essentially coasting but having the rear kick in when it's needed is essential. It stays in AWD when towing and all other modes. Regen is fairly weak in comparison to the brakes. Even Tesla uses RWD for the single motor. Maybe Dodge Caravan buyers will flock to Rivian for a front drive Ute. At least a dual motor option will be available if that happens. Why not? Also:
Having front wheel permanently coupled to motor will ensure maximum break regen,
