Rivian dropped the final teaser before the big reveal tomorrow?

GIAWlFVagAAevs4 copy.jpeg
Assuming the crossbars are the same, this probably means the R2 only has two spots for them. The R1S middle bar has about 3-4" of space between sides and the rearmost one is probably ~ 1.5" or less

Attenborough voice: "Here we find ourselves in the heart of the savannah, where the delicate balance of nature unfolds before our very eyes. Nestled amidst the verdant foliage is a young R2, a burgeoning force of nature in the making.

The R2 is keen to join the hunt - however, it must wait, watching and learning from its elder siblings, the R1s. With measured movements, they demonstrate the importance of patience, agility, and precision, virtues that are the essence of a successful electric SUV. The R2, a symbol of promise and potential, will s00n inherit the mantle of most popular vehicle, ensuring the perpetuation of this remarkable brand on the vast canvas of the wilderness. "
Looks like the crossbars are same as the ones sold for my R1T.

Well everyone, I am signing off from the forum. Sent both my R1's off to auction today, customer support is just not there for me. Congrats to all those who get one in the future, hopefully the internal process match the quality of the vehicles they make by then. Going back to ICE and traditional dealers as they just do it better than Rivian can at the moment. Haven't figured out how to delete my account, do we need to msg an admin?

- Let's talk safety really quickly if we could. I have yet to see an EV take full advantage of the lack of a traditional engine to protect against frontend collision. I would test and offer a frunk crumple-zone wafer-insert that offers additional front end collision protection. Being the first EV to take full advantage of the lack of engine to drastically improve front end collision by way of a larger superior in engineering crumple zone could help them save lives and secure sales to parents. If Rivian has a superior crumple zone compared to a traditional vehicle I am none the aware and marketing should make the safety apparent. Parents in this demographic do not mess around with vehicle safety. I think Volvo is renowned for safety, stealing that title would be huge. Perhaps think about removing the frunk on R3 and instead opting for the most advanced dynamic crumple zone yet offered in a vehicle.
I highly doubt regulators will yield multiple results based on an optional safety feature. Similarly, manufacturers are unlikely to favor implementing something easily removable or optional.

My experience in manufacturing and product development within the outdoor power equipment industry, particularly with features like an operator presence switch, exemplifies how complexity arises to deter customers from bypassing safety measures. This entails considering all potential machine uses. The auto industry, I imagine, adheres to even stricter regulations which is why I would doubt it would every happen as an option.

The R1 models already boast top safety ratings, which is why I trust it to with our family of 7. While I appreciate the focus on additional safety, here is an anecdote about my aunt's experience with her Volvo.

Despite its reputation for safety, she encountered four nearly identical accidents in less than two years due to the thick B pillar creating a massive blind spot. "I'm glad I got a Volvo" she'd say. Once she switched to a Civic with better viewing angles, she remained accident-free for 12 years. Yes, it was her fault, but personally I hated driving her Volvo because of the blindspots it presented. However, your suggestion, if made permanent, wouldn't obstruct any views and could genuinely enhance safety. Though I believe we might be reaching the point of diminishing returns in this regard.

And as for the frunk—well, you can pry it from my cold, dead hands!

The frunk is essential for accommodating my 7-person family in the R1S and will allow the R2S to haul a significant load for a 5-person family, all while maintaining a compact form factor.
This would be a battle that a safety engineer would have trouble winning over marketing and sales considering they are already doing well in the safety department.

I hope the interior is just a shrunk R1S just like the outside. Give us two screens, a little bit of wood accent and keep the design language more or less the same, it'll sell like hotcakes.

Great points. I think a permanent crumple zone en leu of a frunk would be the only viable option. Probably more advantages on a smaller R3. I would be surprised if the front ends have been completely optimized for the considerable space an ev allows. There's a few lives in those diminishing returns. There's value in peace of mind and safety.

The last teaser photo pretty much tells the tale. The R2 is a scaled down R1S. Hopefully, this will be offered at the right price and Rivian will sell a million of them.

But will it have a glooooooovvvee boooooxxxx?
Or 700 cupholders?
That seems to be enough to ditch Rivian for a Ford.

ETA: cupholders must be big enough for at least a pony keg if not a full 1/2 bbl...

I bet it has both. As long as they didn't go crazy with it, should work for most.

Back to the rear charge port discussion?

Twice the fun!

Wrong side for Tesla SC. No CarPlay, 12 volt ports, AM radio, etc., etc. Plus all the stuff the R1S does have.
