Sure thing...

Note the Adapter shipping soon after comment in the post from Rivian. Surprised you haven't seen this post from them already.
Note that "per usual" the didn't specify which March.....
Also, it's still sort of a dumb, repetitive questions.....I think we can trust it will be widely advertised and/or publicized when adapters begin shipping

I'd just like to say that I've never seen a company be so adept at announcing (and missing) ambiguous timelines in a way that causes constant confusion and debate around said announcements. Just look at us parsing every damn word of that tweet with an electron microscope. They even said "soon" again!

At this point I'm thinking we are just pawns in some sort of next-level marketing strategy to get us to talk about the company. I'm not even mad...It's really impressive that they continue to pull this off so consistently after 2-3 years!

Request for enlightening.

I purchased my R1S used at 400 miles. Great find but Never has a guide called me. How do I "get on the list" for the Adapter and what form filed out where?
I too live in and travel in an Electric Desert as far as DC Fast Chargers are located. Eight units in Glenwood Springs, four in Aspen (@ .502 kWh) where one has been broke for almost 2 months and a lonely 65kWh in Carbondale. I live 25 minutes to the closet. No charging at home because the dinosaurs running the HOA have no clue about BEVs with at least 5 EVs living here.

Oops sorry about the rant.

Can I buy an adapter from Amazon and use it at select Tesla charges? The Tesla's in Aspen do not show rated for the NACS adapters and in Edward's the Tesla's are 50 feet from the Electrify America charges so no benefits there.

I might be able to help with a few of these....

Regarding getting on the "list", if you had a contact at Rivian when your R1S was transferred from the previous owner to you, that would be a good place to start asking questions like this.

Secondly, if the Tesla Superchargers in your area don't show as NACS compatible, there is no adapter out there that will help you out. I'm not sure if you used Tesla's maps & filters (tesla.com/find-us and select turn off everything but "Superchargers open to NACS" to see what would work with an owned adapter) in your previous research, but it's quite handy here.

But at least the Tesla chargers in Edmunds actually work. I tried the EA there once on my way to Glenwood and I couldn't get any to work. So I had to drive off while the Teslas were charging just fine.

Well no one knows for sure, but the first step is certainly to make sure you have a Rivian account and that your email address and mailing address are correct. I expect when Rivian obtains the adapters they will send us an email telling us what to expect and when. In the case of Ford, Ford owners had to explicitly ask for the adapter - resulting in a mad rush that prioritized those who happened to be awake and reading their email when the notice went out. I expect Rivian to learn from that and try to distribute the adapters in a more fair manner, for example by VIN number, but we won't know the details until it actually happens.

Thanks for the quick and concise reply.
The Guide I was assigned never ever contacted me. End of that Avenue.
The only Guide who ever contact me was after collecting my R1S from the Normal plant. Sad story, 10 miles from an EA charger and 60 miles range left, the vehicle just died. After lots of effort, tow to plant and replaced 12 volts, drove home to Colorado . Guide called only to say he got the VIN transferred.

I will make the call now to service as experience has taught me that playing by rules: Reservation, Waiting, taking factory delivery is the only means a guide will call.

Service has been only people who respond. Story told, plus 7000 miles in just over 2 months, only issue (so far) windshield washer spraying on bottom 1/4 of windshield. Knock on Wood. Remote Service, remedied and go.

Talk soon.

No matter how the adapters are distributed, some people will think the distribution will be unfair. And they won't be afraid to let us know. I am curious if Tesla turns on the chargers for Rivian, but someone doesn't have their physical adapter yet, if they could use one if they had a Ford or another brand.
I just read on Tesla Motors Club Elon is pissed and just shut off all Supercharger access to ALL non teslas, here we go again....
Internet rumors are about as reliable as Elon.

I'm sure they could use the Ford or A2Z adapter when Tesla turns on access for Rivian's. Just like Ford's can use A2Z.

Yup. But at least it can be orderly. The Ford owners do have some basis to complain because of how Ford did this (a free-for-all, not announced ahead of time). If Rivian defines a logical sequence ahead of time then sticks to it, then IMO the only complaints will be from selfish and entitled people.

That's why I think it's important to have reality-based expectations and stop repeat things like "a guy at the service center told me". It has been evident since June when Rivian made the agreement with Tesla that come March (i.e. now) people would start whining about not having their adapter, blaming Rivian, and throwing around "s00n". Rivian (and every other manufacturer - F, GM, etc.) was simply repeating to us what Tesla had promised, namely that the adapters would become available "starting as soon as Spring 2024". Anyone who thinks this meant that 1 million CCS vehicle owners would all have adapters by March 19th (first day of spring) and thinks that Rivian has broken a promise if that doesn't happen is letting hope cloud their judgement.

So again to try to be clear: We are on Tesla's schedule here (not Rivian's). It is Tesla that needs to open the Superchargers to Rivian, and it is Tesla that needs to manufacture the adapters. Rivian is mostly just waiting for Tesla like all the other brands that have signed an agreement with Tesla.

When I spoke to a Rivian service rep (about unrelated issue,) they said the adapters would be distributed through service centers, to local owners in order of vehicle age.
I hope this isn't the method for distribution. It would be insane for them to tie up already slammed service center staff with this when they have a perfectly good retail Gear Shop infrastructure already in place.

Agreed. Here's an idea: Rivian should ship the entire batch of adapters to an Amazon warehouse, electronically enter orders for all R1 owners, then let Amazon deal with the fulfillment and tracking and replacement of damaged items etc.

Ford did an online sign up which used your Ford account and VIN to request an adapter sent to your supplied address, perhaps to avoid stale addresses and sold vehicles but it resulted in a free-for-all adapter signup.

Probably good advice to have an up-to-date Rivian account with your vehicle VIN(s) and shipping address since no telling how Rivian will mange the many R1 owners looking for adapters.
