LE R1T begins in September!!!! (I would not expect this to happen on September 1st so I am personally hopeful that we can move past the "it's September XX and we still havent seen a truck delivered" posts...even if it's 1 truck in September 30th I will be satisfied
Thanks Ken for all your informative posts, that you have kindly taken your time to share with us. Many thanks to Duck as well. This is such a good thread that I debated on whether to post this, or not, but I'd like to share my thoughts on your comment above. Please don't take it the wrong way. You're doing too much good on the forum, for this to distract you.

I don't see much good coming out of the type posts you're referring to either. However, the problem in the past, for me, has been lack of communication directly from Rivian. If they'll keep us informed of delays and not wait until the last minute to tell us, then I'll be more understanding.

In RJ's email, he said, "I am happy to report we are on track to begin deliveries in September. " He didn't say.......we are on track to begin delivering in September. To me, written words can be interpreted differently, especially by politicians. However, a business man best get his choice of words correctly.

To me, begin delivering in September would allow for one truck, deliveries (to me) is more than one. Therefore, I couldn't be satisfied with only one truck delivered in September, unless I'm told a good reason why and not wait 'till the last minute. How many delivered trucks in September would it take to satisfy me? The answer's in the last paragraph. What can I do about it? Absolutely nothing, other than commenting, if I want to purchase their truck. Loss of control is frustrating in itself.

As of Aug 19th, I've had my preorder deposit down for 2-1/2 years. There are some on this forum that have order dates nearly 3 months ahead of me, that haven't been contacted by a guide.

I won't be satisfied by any amount of trucks delivered in September. I know what my problem is, besides age. I don't think I'll ever be satisfied until I'm contacted by my guide and have an approximate delivery date. Completely satisfied when I receive my truck and it works! ?

I went in to the configurator to add the Yakima RTT to my LE R1T. It now shows my delivery starts in January 2022.

Must be because I am Team Yellow. ;)
Sounds like you lost the LE package. I would contact CS tomorrow to verify.

Completely get the frustration. I should re-word what I wrote...there is no reason to believe there won't be many R1T's delivered in September. What constitutes as "many" is open for debate I suppose.

Assuming you configured a LE...where are you located as I believe that is one of the key attributes to initial contact?

I wonder if max pack R1S in 2022 is like June 2022 or more like Dec 2022. I hope we get some clarification before R1S deliveries start so we can decide if we want to wait or not.

Great info! I would definitely travel the ~5 hours to Normal or Chicago for the test drive events and pick up if I could get my R1T sooner!! I’d do that in a second instead of waiting for the Ohio centers to get up and running.

Thanks very much for asking, Ken. I'm in East Texas currently, but frequent North and South Texas as well. Yes, I did preorder a R1T LE.

You know, I thought my guide contact would be based first on location, but I keep getting conflicting messages. Here is a reply from customer service a couple of days ago, when I was questioning the "Vehicle Purchasing" process, which was mentioned in RJ's latest update:

"I know our Guides are working hard now to ensure all Launch Edition preorder holders, like yourself, are contacted by November at the absolute latest. Based off your preorder date you should be hearing from your guide sooner than later. "

The other conflicting comment (maybe?), in the quote above, is trying to contact all LE preorder holders by November. Not in November, such as by Thanksgiving, but prior to November 1st. I had been hearing Thanksgiving.

My reason for asking about the "Vehicle Purchasing" process is because RJ's update mentioned being completed online and not addressing who it was specifically for. It states customers, but not the type of customer, such as LE, or the conditions needed to complete the process, such as having been contacted by a guide. Below is the quote:

Vehicle Purchasing

"Our online ordering and transaction process will be ready to complete customer purchases next month. This online process allows us to provide you with a convenient and transparent way to complete your purchase and can be completed in as little as 15 minutes. We’ve spent countless hours refining each step to make the process seamless and efficient. We look forward to your feedback as you use this platform to complete your purchase! "

I wanted to know if this would only be available to LE preorder holders, that had been contacted by their guide, or could any new customer complete the online process. I did think it would only be for contacted LE preorder holders, but since it wasn't stated as such, I wanted to know for sure. Here was their reply:

"Your Guide will also assist you in walking through the ordering and transaction process. Since you have not been contacted by a Guide yet, you won’t be able to start the vehicle purchasing process."

I interpret the above to mean only LE preorder holders, contacted by a guide, will be able to complete the "Vehicle Purchasing" process.

I reset my expectations, back in July, to receiving my Rivian no later than the end of June 2022, so I have no reason to complain, but it still doesn't satisfy me. I hope it's prior to that. I see where the Dallas service center is scheduled for completion by early December 2021, so that's good. That said, only a guide contact and approximate delivery date will tide me over 'till delivery. I'll be satisfied at that point......hopefully. Sorry this was so long and again, thanks for your contribution to the forum. ?

People on this forum keep asking for numbers (planned production or how many deliveries) and I just don't see any of that happening until they decide to do their IPO.
Ask the guide, the CSR, RJ, other and if you get any answer I would assume it is in error. They may deliver 1 or 1000 vehicles in September, but we likely will not know nor do I see any benefit to them to say true numbers.
Your third sentence is the best thing that any of us can hope for and the only thing that will provide any meaning IMO.

Agreed, this goes back to lack of communication.
I understand the R1T is priority right now, but to see that deliveries start in January 2022 for R1S but no indication of where I may be at in that cycle or how the Max pack may effect it really puts many of my transportation decisions in limbo.

We've got a 7 hr drive from NE Ohio and I will gladly drive it tomorrow to put the kids in with a few car seats and determine whether the R1S will work for us. That's literally all I need to solidify my purchase whether that means I get it in January of 2022 or December of 2022.

I must have missed something. Yo wrote that your delivery starts in January 2022. Did you find your delivery start date on RIVIAN.COM? At one time I thought I saw my delivery date, but know I do not see it. Any help you can provide is apricated.

I am glad you got a bit about the R1S. 40%+ of the orders are likely for R1S and the amount of information about the current timing for the R1S is another example of bad communication.

It seems Rivian is communicating a bit better the last week or so but they have a long way to go.

I have a feeling Pre-order holders everywhere will have something to be truly thankful for (You know besides the typical stuff like good health, family, love, Football, etc.) come end of November. ?❤✌

  • Non-LE R1T/R1S still on track for January
Are Max Pack Non-LE R1T's included in this target date?

Asking for a friend. ?

cc,

My recall of RJ's words while I was in Normal is that deliveries to customers will be taking place in September. There was no promise as to the numbers of deliveries that would be made, but I recall it being fairly clear that R1Ts would be in the hands of customers by the end of September.

As always, if any other attendees have conflicting information, please feel free to jump in and set the record straight.

I think it's been made abundantly clear that Rivian's intent is to deliver units based, in part, on proximity to where their Service capabilities are the greatest. They made it clear they want to be able to deliver on their service promise and not have an owner stranded by living too far away for that promise to be a realistic expectation.

I hope this helps. I certainly don't want to step on Ken's toes. Ken has done a wonderful job to greatly improve the clarity of information by cutting through the fog that naturally arises with multiple and differing messages covering a long period of time. I tip my hat to Ken for jumping in to help bring us tighter and more timely info.

Sounds to me like the East Texas is the only variable that is working against you (LE and configuration seem to match others who have been contacted). There is still 90ish days to go before their by Thanksgiving timeline for LE R1T Guide contacts. Agree, it would be great to have it somewhere on your profile that says "based on x, y, and z your expected window for initial Guide contact is week # of month"

My thought is that vehicle purchasing can only begin after your configuration has been locked...something that appears like it will be tied to Guide contacts...so I would say while there may be some parts that you could start (like putting in basic address info), there are other parts (loans, insurance plans, etc.) that cannot be finalized until you have a VIN assigned.

It sounds like that is what CS told you as well and that you have the same understanding that I have...only LE preorder holders, contacted by a guide, will be able to complete the purchasing process.

From what I can tell you will have your LE long before your June '22 timeline.

From working at a start up previously that was doing a billion+ in revenue I can sympathize with the frantic pace at which Rivian has been working....hiring/training/building/testing/etc. I am confident that they are laser focused on delivering us all the best electric vehicle in the market for the price. If that means we all have to wait on info a bit longer than we would like than so be it to me. It's the curse of being an early adopter.
