Well - I am happy since I am one of the rare ones with the door handle/mirror problem - though not all the time. The way I ready the charger rating sounded automatic to me - hope so.

Depending on how it is implemented, the charger score could be very powerful. Rivian can automatically get data from every fast charging session done with every Rivian vehicle. This is a much deeper and more reliable data set than PlugShare which has pretty a low participation rate from my observations. I was very excited to see this, if it is programmed right.

Not registering when seated means two key things:
1) no airbag support in case of an accident
This is possibly the safer and desired outcome. This has come up several times on this forum, and IIRC someone posted that Rivian told them 110 or 115 lbs is the threshold for activating the airbag. A very small person is more likely to be injured by the airbag than helped by it, so it's sometimes safer to have it NOT deploy.

The sync behavior of the HVAC is annoying, though.

Yes, I agree that the seat weight sensor default is the correct thing to do in the vast majority of cases. (The weight limit is set to the 5% percentile adult female weight, so that it correctly identifies most children and most adults.) Allowing the driver to override this choice carries legal liabilities - if the sensor is overridden and a child or light-weight adult gets injured by an airbag deploying, Rivian will be facing lawsuits. So IF Rivian allows the driver to override the default setting, THEN Rivian should make it something that has to be reset on each and every trip, and Rivian should display a warning on the center screen and force the driver to confirm that overriding the default may result in injury/death to the passenger.

does this not count as formal announcement?

https://investor.siriusxm.com/news-...usxm-to-launch-on-rivian-r1t-and-r1s-vehicles

That's why I was holding my breath
That is a press release from Sirius XM that says they ... "will bring SiriusXM’s audio entertainment experience to new and existing Rivian R1T and R1S models in the U.S. in 2024"

So, there is no promise there about specifically when or how it will be "brought" to the Rivian. Just that it will happen sometime this year. And we're only 3 months in.

IMO the Sirius XM app is probably already written and ready to go, but will be pushed to Rivian customers only after the Rivian premium connectivity service is introduced. I see XM as something that will take a lot of the cellular bandwidth, which is currently free to customers, so Rivian will not be adding the Sirius XM app until Rivian starts charging for connectivity. (BTW charging for connectivity is also something that was announced last year.) It is far easier to charge for *new* features than it is to start charging for *existing* features that customers currently get for free. So it would be far better to NOT offer Sirius XM until Rivian decides how to bill existing customers for the increased cellular usage.

those are good points, it could very well be combined, major software update that adds new features and also cuts the umbilical cord at the same time.. "here's new features! and here's how much they're gonna cost if you want it!"

My wife does not shows up as a passenger in the front seat about 30% of the time with the seatbelt fastened. She is 105~108 lbs.

Not registering when seated means two key things:
1) no airbag support in case of an accident
2) passenger side climate control doesn't function separately from synced mode.

After multiple attempt with the service center/mobile service, Rivian can only say that it's within spec.

Rivian SC staffs say that SW fix is coming. That was 4 firmwares ago.

Instead of tinkering with some of the small infotainment enhancements, one would think that safety fix should be at higher priority.

Unfortunately the problem is so small in terms of affected population, they have done nothing to date.
I know you don't want to hear this, but it is performing to the NHTSA standard. The NHTSA uses the "5th percentile female" for all their crash test guidelines and standards, which is 108 pounds. Based on your description of your wife, it sounds like she is right at or below the threshold, and if it does not activate only 30% of the time, that's actually pretty good. These sensors are not going to be 100% accurate at exactly 108 pounds every single time some one sits down.

Software Update 2024.11
Charging Score

Now when you select a charging station in Navigation or in the Rivian mobile app 2.8.0 (or later), you’ll see a charging score based on key factors such as success rate and time it takes to start charging. Trip plans will automatically take these charging scores into account (where they’re available) to help you avoid sites with lower scores. You can also adjust your charging map filters to hide sites with low scores.

Send Navigation, Mapping, and Charging Feedback

Also in Navigation, you now have an option to send feedback to us on any navigation, mapping, and charging issues. Go to the feedback icon to submit your comments.

Rear Display Improvements

We updated the rear display with a new layout, and added more functionality that includes access to:

  • Navigation trip progress
  • Power outlet controls
  • Media panel to view what’s currently playing and the ability to play or pause
  • Rear vent and seat heat controls
  • Hotspot connection
  • Bluetooth connection
  • Interior lights control

You can also now lock the rear display screen via a quick control in the center display.

Additional Improvements

  • Improved Pet Comfort temperature control by increasing the amount of airflow in the cabin.
  • Improved ride height adjustments to reduce the number of occasions that require the vehicle to raise before a drive.
  • Infotainment:
    • Added new content to the Off-Road Driving section of the R1 Owner’s Guide with guidelines and tips to help you drive more safely and confidently off-road.
    • Fixed an issue that caused the center display to show the outlets timer numbers in the incorrect day or night theme.
    • Fixed a rare issue that caused the driver display to show an extra non-functional garage door option.
    • Fixed an intermittent issue that prevented playlists from displaying while media streamed over a Bluetooth connection.
    • Fixed a very rare issue that caused the Phone panel to crash and display a blank screen when the Bluetooth phone switcher or preset settings were repeatedly tapped.
  • In Navigation, improved the swipe-down behavior of the turn-by-turn instruction panel to make it easier to open while driving.
  • Fixed a rare issue that prevented Gear Guard from starting up and capturing video when the Motion Cam was turned on through the Rivian mobile app.
  • Fixed a rare issue that disabled Hotspot.
  • Fixed a rare issue that caused software package downloads to fail when the vehicle was connected to Wi-Fi.
  • Fixed an issue that caused a charging session to stop earlier than expected when state of charge (SoC) limit was set to 50%.
  • Fixed a rare issue during vehicle unlocking that prevented one or more of the door handles from presenting and mirrors from unfolding.
Weak. The available content in the stack is embarrassing. At the R2 launch RJ said safety is number one but still no voice to text. I can’t think of any modern car that doesn’t offer voice texting either native or through CP/AA. Still no Apple Music, Waze, Google Maps, onX etc. I love my truck but the content of RJ’s precious stack is a total flop.

EA has to get their act together. The other services are easy to see station status. Integrating plug share or abrp crowd source is a good idea for several reasons. One to help people know when stations are broken or full since the providers are often oblivious and two to let people know when a station is ripping people off with $10 session fees or high kw or min rates.

Nice to hear the upgrades for rear display. Probably useful for R1S / big family types. Imo my dog doesn't even ride back there now, but maybe if I can get him to switch and take a turn at driving, I can check out the new features. ?

Can get we Captain Chairs in the R1S to go with the new controls for the rear display?

In all seriousness I might be the only one excited for this update because I've been hoping to Rivian would add some kind of feedback mechanism to fix the map errors.

I know you can do it externally, but its nice to do it after the drive while its still fresh in my memory banks.
