After the shocking, yet on brand, news that Elon has decided to severely downsize the 500+member super charging team, this has sent the EV charging world into a frenzy. I'm even reading how this is about limiting access for competitors to the network to stifle the competition. I have an easy solution... Certify/partner with 3rd party NACS adapters like @A2ZEV.

This adapter puts the Rivian/Ford owners on superior EV charging footing to Tesla users because now we have two networks to access. Without it, we're dependent upon Tesla to roll them out as they see fit. I don't think depending on Elon Musk is wise under any circumstances.

Unfortunately, hands might be tied because Telsa might have something in contract that says other OEMs can't legally do that, at least not until the standard is finalized.

Not really sure what you're suggesting here. The adapter doesn't give you access to the supercharger network, Tesla does. If he wants to limit access all he has to do is... limit access. It's a software thing.

Well, even with a third party adapter, the unstable genius could cut off non-Tesla users on a whim. I’ve towed our Airstream over 5000 miles without a Tesla charging stop, and will continue to do so. EA has performed beautifully for us, as have EVgo, Charge Point. Francis Energy, Blink, and Loop
Competition is good, a Tesla monopoly is dangerous.

Was this really shocking? Why would Tesla continue to spend capital expanding a network as fast as it was when it was no longer a competitive advantage? They are still expanding, just not as fast.

Was there really a frenzy in the EV Charging world? All I read was affirmation from a few Charger networks they were continuing as normal and in 2025 they would add NACS plugs.

I would definitely be racing to figure that one out.

The limitation is waiting for adapters, not access to the network.

  1. Tesla is the hands down leader in EV adoption in the US
  2. The Tesla charging network is superior by a long shot
  3. Tesla cutting 500+ employees in said network after major competitors decided to adopt NACS is creating an upheaval
  4. The companies that adopted the NACS standard may rethink their decision

@A2ZEV just announced that they're going through the certification process and should be ready soon ??

Like I have said all along having native CCS will be the long term winner. You can always use an adapter for NACS. I think Tesla may have legal ramifications from this decision since they took the most federal funds to “grow EV charging”. I believe an investigation is already under way.

I didn't think they are violating any agreement as long as they keep it open to other manufacturers. Do you have any references to the investigation?

In the Reuters article released it mentions the funds and the possibility of govt investigation as the funds are earmarked specifically for EV network expansion. This implies more than software.

Given Elon's history of mental instability and petulant nature it would not surprise me at all if they shut off access to non-Tesla vehicles.
