I reached out to Michelin support yestarday regarding if/when the 275/65R20 size would be available for the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2.

They told me it is being released August 1st 2024.

That's great news as I am waiting until the refresh to get my R1S and plan on immediately swapping the Pirelli ATR+ over to the Michelins for better comfort, noise, efficiency, and longevity.

Nice, thanks for sharing. I wonder what the main differences between this and the Defender LTX Platinum will be.

The 275 65 r20 Michelin Defender LTX Platinum tires have been out since fall and I will tell you, they are AWSOME on my R1S! This is should be a stock option because they are very smooth, absolutely silent, and I am getting about the same range efficiency as the 21’! In addition, they look great!

Thanks for sharing - I plan to do the same - wait for refreshed R1S and swap 20' for defender 275/65R20. Just hope load spec is 116 or better. Defender LTX M/S2 is currently available as 275/50R22 is my understanding Also the X-Ice is available for 22's

If you're not off-roading, I've always found the LTX to be the ultimate truck tire. Quiet, last forever, don't have balance issues or any other problems. I was getting 60k from them on my Ram 2500.

The platinums are a different sort of tire. Heavier, more off road focused. I wanted the Defender LTX M/S2 as they are the ultimate for a pure on road focus. Quieter, more efficient, probably handle better than the platinums.

Good to hear I'm not the only one. I also sent a follow up email asking if the X-Ice Snow SUV's will be coming in 275/65R20 as I'd like either those or the Nokian R5 SUV's for winter driving.

Yeh there's no way they won't be rated high enough for Rivian. Michelin play close attention to this stuff.

Yeh I want them in the correct size so my efficiency and speed is correct. Also more side wall is always better in my book.

I have these in 275/60/20 and they’re fantastic (same size as factory 21s)
I have this set up as well. I switched from my OEM 21s to a set of Atomic Wheels 20s and they are great. Same efficiency that I got from my 21s but Defender LTX M/S2s did way better in the snow this winter than my Pirelli’s did last season. I wish they had a little more aggressive AT look, but I really can’t complain about looks or performance since they are AS tires.

I heard people were disappointed in the snow performance though, do you have experience there with the platinum?

Super excited about the MS2s coming. The wear on our stock 20's has been ok so far, but they are getting noisy and I have a sever bias against Pirelli tires after years of suffering with them as OEM tires on multiple vehicles.

I'm tempted because of the look of the platinums, but I have had exceptional experiences with the defender LTXs

I am not using them for snow conditions. I will switch back to my Pirelli ATs for winter since they are 3peak rated and I only have 7k on them. That was the point in why I switch out. I have always. Been a religious winter/AS seasonal tire changer since living in Europe. And even though the Pirelli are AT and not winter, they are still 3peak rated. And the Michelin tires are 100% better in all other seasons.
