I think it proves there is a minority of people who are just special and neurotic AF… to be this bothered by a f’ing turn signal.

Accusing anybody who doesn’t agree to be “Rivian sympathizers” is just lazy logic and a weak argument to make. In this thread alone, everyone can clearly see there are people who don’t mind the signal but are critical of the “streamlined” horn.
New Rivian owner here (got my R1S yesterday). Drove about 200 miles today. Came home and Googled "how do i turn off the indicator sound on my Rivian". Not a big deal for a lane change. But sitting at a long turn signal hearing that sound nonstop is annoying. So yeah... the "f'ing turn signal" is annoying. I'll live. But I'm backing up the OP here!

It isn’t annoying. It’s uniquely RIVIAN. Don’t change it unless there is the option to keep it.

I don’t know how anyone could find it annoying but NOT find a far more obnoxious traditional blinker noise annoying, I find it subtle.

I have a volume control on my hearing aids.
Obnoxious sound is a relative thing.
My relatives usually agree.

It’s the noisy sound file. the tone itself is cool. the white noise that accompanies it is atrocious.

I wish it was more annoying. I keep leaving it on. Can’t these high tech cars detect “hey dummy, you’ve been driving straight for a while, you probably don’t need this turn signal on anymore”? I need that feature.
Mine does just that. Are you sure yours doesn’t? But sometimes the blinker needs to be on so I ignore the warning.

I guess it's not the sound/tone that's annoying, it's the volume. I appreciate that it's uniquely Rivian. Would be nice if there was the option to adjust the volume on it is all. It's a cool sound but just unnecessarily loud IMO. Sitting at a turn signal, listening to the radio and the blinker shouldn't be "the main character" as the kids say these days. Cheers.

It's a nice pleasant tone but way too loud. There should be an option to lower the volume.

I can't stress enough that achieving user satisfaction regarding the audio quality of the blinker tone would be significantly enhanced if Rivian were to refine the sound file by removing any extraneous white noise.

I kinda went down a rabbit hole of research on this one. I have no personal opinion, other than I like the sound that Rivian went with. I can see how in a quiet car sitting at a light for minutes at a time, the sound can become wearing.

Anyway, here's some fun reading for any of my fellow nerds:
https://illumin.usc.edu/car-turns-signals-why-they-blink-make-sounds-and-look-a-certain-way/

https://jalopnik.com/heres-why-your-turn-signals-make-that-clicking-noise-1793380845

It doesn't seem like there are any regulations requiring a noise when your indicator is on--there are plenty of regulations with respect to where indicators are placed on a vehicle, their relative intensity, flash intervals, etc.

There are 1000s of good ideas that people have and 10,000s of terrible ideas people have (opinion: mine!) that I see around these forums, message boards, discord, etc. While I'm ALL FOR customization and being able to control all of these variables we could most certainly control if we had software access.... I DO wonder: at what point will it become overwhelming?

Say Rivian enabled the ability to change tonality, volume, etc of the blinkers, while giving us ambient light color access, while enabling video streaming services, while giving us the towing upgrades they've been promising, while giving us control of the rear screen, while giving us more camera angles, while giving us more control of gear guard, while giving us more seat positioning options, while giving us more individual customizations per driver, while enabling V2H, while...while.....?

Again, all for it; but at what point does it become a nightmare to navigate/find the setting we can't find, or even to know they're all there? That's probably an interesting discussion point when developing UX.
