I still think it has more to do with some other market they are going to announce s00n. That the stadium turn signals don't comply somewhere. I will miss the stadium look if it is gone and replaced with a strip of leds....

The stadium lights aren't going away, may have been about the signal or maybe even aerodynamic efficiencies.

I guess I meant the way the headlight surround blinks yellow all around it as a turn signal, versus a small strip of yellow led's blinking like so many other vehicles have.

Understood, but the picture provided still shows a sidelight change, not a headlight change.
Just choice of words. No offense, a reaction to that is perhaps too far into weeds as well. Light bar does show to be sculpted like R2/3. And when I read the list of updates, I thought of adaptive lighting tech, which is different from the automatic high beam we currently have. Inconclusive, but possible/logical given price point.

It feels too soon for a mid-cycle update, but remember much of the spec we have now were decided back in ‘18-‘19, in order to line up supply for goal of ‘20-‘21 production start. The auto industry is now a rapidly moving space. Rivian and everyone else has to do all they can to keep things “fresh” and stay competitive. Unveiling of Scout is coming soon and may well be the closest competition, in context of price and capability.

While all the focus now is on Chinese brands and their unfair competitive edge, the Koreans have had that same advantage for decades and are already here, gaining more and more market share. And they have massive production and financial leverage. Gestation for new model lines used to take 10-12 yrs. Now it’s 5-6 yrs. Mid-cycle updates are now 2-3 yrs. This means as soon as a new model launches, the auto makers are already working on updates.

Are you sure this isn't the R2
In addition to having the R1S badge, there is another way to confirm from the picture of the rear that it's an R1S and not an R2. The R1S has the two piece liftgate and tailgate, while the R2 just has a one-piece mechanism. You can clearly see the horizontal line right below the Rivian logo that separates the two pieces. Of course, that line doesn't exist on the R2.

Wasn't there an issue with snow/ice build up on the headlights in colder climates? Perhaps new headlight design to address this?
yeah it’s really bad, especially in heavy wet snow. In one Tahoe storm last winter I had to stop 3 times in 15 miles to clear snow off the headlights. They collect a sheet of show and then don’t really light up the road at all.

it’s actually pretty dangerous.

I wonder if applying a ceramic coat to the outside of the headlight cover would make this less likely.

Well excuse me for breathing and making a contribution to the forum! As I first started reading the thread...no, I thought it was an honest question. You are clearly a more intelligent and perceptive being than I.

Kinda amazed no one pointed out that this still has the CCS connector. Little disappointing, but we can use an adapter.

Which wheels are these? Looks like they will have a lot of R1S available for the shop soon.
