I really appreciate this comment. I hate the term "Vegan Leather," and the misinformed virtue signaling it implies. There is a surplus of leather globally, as long as people keep eating meat (which we will), so using virgin plastic (which is inferior to leather in every way I can tell) is actually worse for the world than using leather that is otherwise tossed. Yes, tanning can be a concern, but as you point out, there are ecologically friendly ways to tan leather—it just costs more than "Vegan Leather."Serious question, what's funny about leather? There exists eco friendly sustainable ways to tan leather. IMO it's better and more sustainable than the use of petrochemical "forever chemical" based interiors.
Also I'm not sure but I think the steering wheel might be leather already.
Personally I'd prefer leather interior.
Faux leather has come a long way, but it's still not better than leather in my book—it can still delaminate/peel with age, it doesn't seem like it can be made quite as durable while being supple, and it doesn't patina like the real thing as it ages and is worn in—it just gets worse over time. I don't see one selling point that plastic has over the real thing and I really wish this trend would die, but the marketing of "vegan leather" as something to be proud of seems to have successfully worked across the industry and culture, sadly.
