I will have to hand my future (knock on wood) R1S over to a garage attendant regularly. Most attendants are great but there are some pretty careless ones too. It seems like there should be a “Garage Attendant / Valet Mode” to provide a little protection from garage abuse.

I think it should include the below functions. What else? Is this a good idea or dumb? Does it already exist?

Parking Garage / Valet Mode
  • Screen should show basic operation (start, leave in park, etc.) for garage attendant. Provide in both English and Spanish, with buttons for other languages.
  • Max speed limited to ~5 mph.
  • Attendant cannot open frunk, use stereo, or run a/c for extended period. (Attendants will camp out in comfy cars.)
  • Attendant has no ability to access gear guard or erase any recordings.
  • Gear guard should operate but perhaps with some adjustments so it’s not going on (and using battery) too often in a busy garage. (Will have to leave car sitting for 3 weeks at a time occasionally.)
  • Windows cannot be opened far enough for valet to climb in and out of them. (Ask me how I know this is needed.)
  • Daily (or less frequent) (email or other) report to owner on battery charge, etc.
  • Could have a maximum battery charge level limit after which more systems (like gear guard) shut down or become more limited.
  • Height cannot be raised (to avoid smashing roof when cars are stacked or low clearances).
  • What else?

Maybe lock the Camp Speaker and disable the enter console buttons?
To secure items stored in the vehicle, lock the gear tunnel doors, power tonneau cover, and tailgate release on R1T?
To prevent damage in low areas lock the power lift gate on R1S?

I like this idea. Teen Driver mode would be another feature to pair with it...
Lock it to certain keys.

Max Volume limit on the radio
If a butt is detected in a seat, the seatbelt MUST be worn to operate the car
Max speed of 10% above posted speed limit or alarm / notification occurs
Notification if car goes outside a predefined area... like more than x miles from school/home/work
No driving with the tailgate open (if it's an R1T)
No access to gear guard
Owner can enable/disable of camp speaker or drawer lock in teen mode.
Lock out sport and AT modes... General Purpose or Conserve Mode only.
Ride Height stays fixed at standard

Some valet parking locations are "down the street". Restricting the speed to ~5 mph may not be the best. Maybe limit the speed to 5 miles lower than the posted speed.

A valet profile that cannot save any changes or alter, use the stored profiles.

Tesla is doing this for years, lock all the compartments, remove the fun mode, access and limit overal speed to what you define.

I believe there is already a feature request at Rivian trackr

This is correct…it’s been requested for awhile similar to what Tesla runs for valet mode..

We can call it "Mr. Fancy Pants Visits Fancy Places where COdogman Isn't Allowed" mode.

If you're regularly letting a teen drive an 800hp vehicle to school or work, I fear there's a bit more at play than any amount of locking down can help with. If you want your kid to drive safely you don't give them a Hellcat with a speed governor installed.

Go with Mr. Muscles. He can get you past the bouncer.

(For the record, this is life in NYC and it’s insane but not actually fancy. I’m a midwesterner and will never fit in.)

I watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off, have never valeted since…

To be honest, never used valet before that either. ??

I lived there for 3 years and felt like I was on another planet. It was great though! It was 1000 times better than Philadelphia.

Helpful. Thanks.

But what is this Rivian Trackr of which you speak? (And what did they do with the missing “e”?)

Does having a feature request there mean something? Is there a bandwagon I’m missing out on?
