Living here in Tucson AZ, I can say for a fact that sunshades make a huge difference. It was 110F this week. Without it my truck runs the climate control all the time to “protect the infotainment electronics”. With the sunshade she is silent. I put them on the front windshield and the front side windows. They also keep the seats and steering wheel from frying my hands and legs when I get in her. I have a roof shade but I don’t use it. It doesn’t make a difference. The UV tint on the pano glass is sufficient. Sure it still gets hot in the truck but not AZ nuclear hot.

Save your time and money. Windshield sunshade will do virtually nothing to reduce temps when the entire roof is glass. You're better off getting a shade for the roof.
You can do both... I keep the roof shade permanently installed year round, then use the windshield shade during the summer.

I desperately need this roof shade and looking to Rivian to deliver it. The windshield sunshade is quite good from Rivian. If you leave it sun facing, it significantly drives down the internal temp.

I ended up getting this roof shade for my R1T, they also have one for the R1S.

I never remove it as it tucks in between the headliner and the glass roof and removing it regularly seems like it could eventually damage the headliner.

Disagree.
I also have my (side and rear) windows tinted with ceramic tint.
But.

When I use my sunshade, the car will sit 20-30 degrees cooler (on average) than if I don't put it in the windscreen. I promise you there's a huge difference.

FWIW: The roof rejects UV pretty well. It's not adding heat to the cabin in my experience...in fact I'd argue if the rest of the windows were treated the way the roof glass was, we'd have zero issues.

Rivian’s own “The Inside Story” says “The R1’s laminated glass is also engineered for durability and treated to block more than 99.9% of UV light.”

UV has absolutely zero correlation to heat. You cannot feel UV. Nobody can. An all glass roof cooks the cabin. Tint can help to reduce the amount of infrared energy that enters the cabin but glass is still going to perform terribly compared to a conventional steel roof, particularly one painted white on the exterior. Glass roofs have a cool factor to those that find them to be cool. Otherwise there is zero practical benefit to a glass roof over a conventional insulated steel roof found on countless other vehicles.

Quite frankly it's confounding that you believe the glass roof does not contribute to the heat in the cabin. Confounding.

Because on a hot day, I can literally put my hand up near/against the glass and it is not hot (ESPECIALLY when compared to the windscreen). It's not rocket science.

Thanks Rob! Got this yesterday on a lark. It makes a big difference. It fit's perfectly. I'm surprised at the quality given the price. I'm still trying to learn how to twist it back inside the bag though. :CWL:
Glad you like it!

All I can say about storing it is; I twist it in to a fig 8 then one more twist so end up with three circles kind of... and that then fits in the bag.. sort of ;) It's complicated!

Darn it!!!!!! I like that better than Heatshield I just bought for twice the price!!
Yeah, I ordered heat shields for our R1S and F150 at the same time. They are very good at their job but they are pretty cumbersome to deal with, I regret the purchase. An accordion style would be much easier to deal with than the roll up.

I don't need it very often, but this works for me when needed in PNW. Along with the roof shade, it has worked well for me in temperatures up to 100. Arizona is a different ballgame. I also feel that windshield shade is more important than the roof shade. The plastic on dash gets hot and keeps radiating the heat. Roof glass can be cooled by pointing the vents up
