If you can find someone to give you more take it. Rivian is making an offer they feel is fair. This happens all the time, dealer X offers you 22k but dealer Y offers you 28k. Of course I would take the 28k.

All,
Happy Friday,
I am about to complete the purchasing process for 2024 R1S and want to trade my existing car. Rivan is offering almost 10-11 K compared to KBB. (44 K rivian offer vs 55-57K KBB offer). Not sure where Rivian is getting their values? But is this offer negotiable? Who can we talk to about this? Sales or Rivian guide?

Thank You!
Is the KBB a private sale or dealer trade in offer? I traded to Rivian so I knocked 28, 000 grand off the taxable amount in my state, that’s 1680 bucks in tax. Plus it was just easier to drive to the SC with my trade, and leave with my T. I owed 18,000 on my trade, so it all worked out well for me. I did it for convince, I hate selling private and carvana or other services like that are not in my area.

I’ve seen many people on Facebook get a Carmax offer that’s higher than Rivian’s, and Rivian will match that. They won’t match any other offers.
Geez, I wish that had been a thing when I bought two years ago. I ended up selling to CarMax because Rivian wouldn't budge.

FWIW, I’m considering swapping my 2023 R1T for a 2024 R1T lease and Rivian offered $59,300 as a trade but CarMax only offered $55,000. Just a data point.
But Rivian won’t let you use all the trade in value on the new lease. Be careful. Another example of where we are simply better off selling the old one on the open market.

Seriously? That’s insane! I also found out that there was indeed a destination charge despite not including it in the fine print available to the consumer prior to putting the nonrefundable deposit down. Once you put the nonrefundable deposit down, only then will the destination charge be mentioned. Because I figured that there would be a charge, I had to wait 3 days for a Rivian advisor to get in touch to confirm whether there would be a charge or not, and by the time they did, the truck I wanted was sold. I also heard that the $500 nonrefundable deposit somehow is not applied to the cap cost too, which is really confusing. By the time it was all said and done, it was going to be about $5,000 just in transaction costs and that was just too much for me to stomach. I’d rather just save the money and put PPF on my dang truck. I love my Rivian and think they usually do a good job, but their sales practices are trash. I had a rough time getting the TTL straightened out when I bought my R1T because Rivian didn’t know what they were doing and messed it up, and sadly it appears that it’s not improved.

It's dealer trade-in.

It’s well known that Rivian is not in the business of, nor do they want to sell your used car. In most cases they never even take legal possession of a trade. They are offering you the approximate auction value of your car minus whatever their estimated expenses are for transporting it there. Sometimes it makes sense (particularly if you factor in any available tax incentive in your state to trade), but you’ll almost always do better selling elsewhere

You “found out” there was a destination charge? There is always a destination charge on every new vehicle, every make and model…

Instead of being so snarky to total stranger, read my post above. I expected a destination charge. The problem is that Rivian’s lease estimator and all available terms did not list one. It listed the doc fee, acquisition fee, disposition fee, TT&L fee, and the first month’s payment. The destination fee was conspicuously absent, and since I was buying from the shop - for which you must put in your zip code - I don’t think it was entirely unreasonable that the vehicle was already at my local service center and they may not be seeking to charge the destination fee in order to get the Gen 1 2024 delivered by a particular date, 6/30/2024 per the Rivian website.

So yeah, considering all that, I had to “find out” for sure whether there would be a destination fee. Sheesh.

I looked at it this way... Rivian is going to lose money when they take your trade in; they are accepting trade in is because they are trying to make it convenient to the buyers. They are just balancing it out with lower trade-in offers.

I was told it was non-negotiable. I sold my Model 3 to a local dealer for 5k more than Rivian offered.
