The 'panel' compressor is now a paid option on the DM Gen.2 R1S but I saw on a comparison list riviantrackr.com that a 'Rivian Portable Air Compressor' now comes as standard with Gen.2 DM. I've had a sniff around but can't find any details on this portable compressor.
I'm likely buying from the shop soon and so am limited in the choice of options and so want to understand what this portable compressor is like vs. the integrated panel compressor and so what weight to put on needing the panel compressor or making do with this portable compressor.
Can anyone point me to any details please?
Many thanks.

Until I got the R1S I used a 18V Ryobi portable compressor. It wasn't the fastest, but it worked. If I had an R1 or R2 without a compressor, I'd probably buy a 120V corded portable one and just keep it in the car. Now - if you're airing down frequently that may be a pain, but if you've ever tried to put the Rivian compressor hose away you may thank me for an alternative.

Thanks for the reply. I've had a little 12V VIAIR compressor in my Subaru for something like 10 years now, it's slow but gets there in the end although not sure how it might get on with the much higher PSIs and bigger tires of the Rivian?
It's not something I'd use so often and so I'd be happy enough with something portable but the list that somebody compiled on riviantrackr.com suggested Gen 2 Rivians without the integrated compressor option had something portable included. See at the bottom of this screen shot (the list does go on after)

Interesting rumor. One reason I can believe this is if they ship without a spare tire, then they'd probably include the fix-a-flat goo and an air compressor instead for flat tire situations. (Gen 1 came with the goo and the air hose kit.)

Edit: goo = this https://rivian.com/gear-shop/p/tire-sealant-kit

As you say it does make sense for side of the road puncture repairs (as no spare supplied) but it just seems weird that I can't find any details on it. If it's not true and there is no portable option supplied then I'd put a higher value on the integrated option which could then effect the choices from the shop.

You can see the portable compressor (in its case) in this Reddit thread:

From the small case it looks like a pretty cheap model. I plan to just keep my Milwaukee M18 inflator with a battery in mine and charge or swap out the battery every so often.

Thanks for this, at least it confirms that the info is correct and the portable compressor is real. That said assuming we're talking about what is visible on the 2nd image (sitting sideways) then that does look suspiciously like my little VIAIR pump or something of a similar size and so power. But it's there and if supplied with the vehicle I assume it must have the chops to inflate the tires to the recommended pressure while on the vehicle and not need all day to get there. So I can feel more comfortable about ordering a truck without the integrated option.

Let me first state: I love my truck & Rivian.

Okay now that's outta the way.

Fuck that hose! Fuck that compartment door with its cheap flimsy plastic hinges.

It's bad engineering, and cheaply manufactured. I hope to see 3rd party replacements for the gear tunnel doors interior hidden compartments. A $90K vehicle shouldn't have doors that cheaply and poorly thought of. More so when it's marketed as an "adventurer's vehicle".

Also fuck the easily dented metal panels. Fuckin squirrels put a small dent on my hood from an acorn.

Now that's off my chest. I love my truck and Rivian.

There's enough space in the sub trunk, that I didn't bother to try and fit the hose back in the zippered bag it came in. That thing is a PITA to try to squeeze back in there.

I've used the onboard compressor once to confirm it worked in case I ever needed it on the road. We don't do any offroading (although we drove it on a, gasp, gravel road once), so I'm not regularly airing down and back up. If I need to top off a tire now I simply grab my Ryobi - I have to walk around to each tire anyway and it's just so much easier.

I wouldn't rely on this compressor, we will see but I bet it's just to meet legal requirements when they don't include a spare. Likely meant for emergency road side more than anything else.

For example my Ioniq 5 came with a compressor too and some fix-a-flat similar to what Rivian includes.

I find all the complaints about the hose funny. I don't have any problems with it. But I also don't have any problems folding maps back up either ... If you don't like the hose, just spend a few bucks and get a "better" one - lots of threads with suggestions/links.

25’ coiled hose fits in the factory pouch nicely.
