It is not about being sore.. we all plopped quite a bit of money and it is understandable that people are upset that these new features that were promised are not being delivered. Lane change or staying in lane seems to be basic features that are incorporated in other cars and works everywhere. Driver+ in its current implementation on Gen 1s is not useful as it works only in freeways.

Why would Rivian not upgrade for free or give us the option for a paid hardware upgrade in Gen 1s to support the new platform? It is better than buying a new car.
The hardware upgrade you're asking for costs about as much as a new car. You bought the product they had, not the next ten years of products they develop. If you feel so strongly about all this, trade your gen 1 in for a gen 2.

I'm happy Rivian is making use of the updated hardware. The door press to unlock is one that was sorely needed. Of course I think it should be every door that can do it, I miss that function from my Bolt.
I have this with my GM and Ford and really miss it as well on the Rivian. In fact both Ford and GM have push to lock and push to unlock. Much better than the walk up and wait, or walk away and hope.

FYI, with the latest update, I had the walk away locking fail twice already.

That is weird...it seems walk away should always work....if nothing else...based on some timer that if it doesn't see the fob or phone, after some time element...that it would lock. Meaning it arguably couldn't fail to lock. It must not work that way unfortunately.

Hi, new Rivian owner, wondering how long it usually takes for update to become available in the car after the announcement? thank you

Hey Please calm down. All I’m saying is that it came with promises that they are not keeping. I am fine with the car the way it is. Geez!!!1

Generally, the first installations the public sees are employee vehicles, which can pop up 1 week after an announcement. They usually take an additional week to validate there aren't any issues.

If all is well, rollouts happen in waves across an additional week.

So best case, 2 weeks. Worst case, 3+ (last wave + extra time for validation)

Software Update 2024.23
Rivian Autonomy Platform
The premium driver assistance features are now called the Rivian Autonomy Platform.

The Rivian Autonomy Platform+ adds the new advanced feature, Lane Change on Command, which automatically performs lane changes in the direction of the turn signal while Highway Assist is engaged. For more information, choose Owner’s Guide at the bottom of the center display, and search for Lane Change on Command.

  • A free trial of the Rivian Autonomy Platform+ is automatically included through 2024 and includes Lane Change on Command.
  • More features will be added to the Rivian Autonomy Platform+ in future releases to enhance the driving experience.

Press to Unlock Your Vehicle
You can press the sensor on the driver-side door handle to unlock the vehicle if the following conditions apply:

  • Proximity Locking is turned off.
  • You have your phone key with you.
  • You are close to the vehicle.

New Roadside Lighting
If you stop and park your vehicle on the side of the road, you can have your roadside lighting animate to direct traffic around your parked vehicle. To turn on roadside lighting, put your vehicle in Park, and open the quick controls panel. Go to Vehicle > Shortcuts > Roadside lighting from the status bar of the center display.

Additional Improvements
  • Updated the exterior lighting charging animation. When the charge session reaches the charge limit you set, the center light bars stay green. The segments at full brightness indicate the changing level; any remaining segments are dimmed.
  • Smoothed the exterior lighting welcome animation that plays as you approach the vehicle.
  • The entry lights now gradually brighten when they turn on or gradually dim when they turn off.
  • Fixed an issue that didn’t save a change to the brightness setting for the accent lights when no one is in the vehicle.
  • The liftgate or hood now reverses if it encounters an obstacle when it is almost closed or if it cannot fully close after a period of time.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the windows from completely closing after calibration.
  • Fixed an issue that inadvertently moved the side mirrors during Roomy entry and exit.
  • The center console now locks if the Gear Guard alarm is triggered.
  • Added a notification to inform you if the Camp Speaker or drawer is docked but unlocked while the vehicle isn’t in Park.
  • If the center display indicates Pet Comfort is turned on, the open door buttons are disabled.
  • Limited the maximum fan speed to reduce during certain cooling modes.
  • Fixed an occasional issue that opened Apple Wallet when an iPhone was placed on the wireless charger.
  • Fixed an occasional issue that kept the Gear Guard video recordings from including the location.
  • Fixed a rare camera system stability issue that kept certain views from appearing.
  • Fixed an issue that kept the trailer brake activation prompt from properly appearing on the driver display.
  • Fixed an issue that kept the Rear Cross-Traffic Warning from appearing on the driver display.
  • Fixed a rare issue that prevented the Highway Assist Available icon from appearing on the driver display when Highway Assist was available.
  • Fixed an issue that kept the vehicle from navigating to faraway destinations when offline.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented you from saving small seat position changes.
  • Improved the charging session reliability for the Rivian Adventure Network.
Any frustration I have about this update stems from the fact that it's delaying Gen1 features. That being said, I'm not all that frustrated because I understand that Gen2 needs a bit of "catch up" to make it's hardware work as intended. So I'm not concerned this is a sign of Gen1 abandonment.

Now, if the next months' updates have similar favorability to Gen2, then that'll be genuine cause for anger.

Correct, just the key cards with the gen 2s.
Apparently service can pair a fob to your gen 2 but it’s a service request rather than a standard feature which is just absurd.

Make sure you’re connected to WiFi if you want to get it the soonest you can.

In fairness, Rivian initially stated openly that they were not pursuing high level “self driving” and drew a line between Tesla’s attempt to remove the human from driving and their desire to help the human driver. They (Rivian) are not responsible for buyer ignorance or unreasonable expectations based on said ignorance

Which promises specifically are they not keeping? They never promised “self driving” or anything even approaching self driving similar to Tesla…you either misunderstood something you read or made an assumption that was not correct

I never said anything about FSD. What I said was basic features like following lane markings and change lanes when you turn on the indicator. Is that too much to expect?

Sure but they pretty significantly walked back what they promised was coming. It’s not ignorant to hold them accountable for that.

Honda Ridgeline to R1T
Defending those complaining… found a Tech Crunch article that linked to Rivian’s website from the early days.

Wanted to check myself why I thought there would be more to Driver+. Well, it’s because they said there would be

https://stories.rivian.com/time-to-build

Everything mentioned was Driver+ and not the goal post moving Rivian Autonomy Thingamabob.

In the end we got:

1) waits a bit longer to nag you to put hands on the wheel
2) cool animation when you switch lanes and Highway Assist doesn’t turn off.
3) cameras freak out less in rain and glare.

That’s it for two years of shipping vehicles.

It's like buying a new computer... two years later, it is an antique. Sadly, our R1s are a giant computer.
or 2 months later for some of us. Gen 2 was announced like the week after I took delivery. I'm not salty about not getting some of the changes. Just glad I leased.
