Lectron Vortex Plug FAIL

I went from Scottsdale to San Diego and stop in Dateland at the premiere super charger facility for Tesla. The vortex plug started off perfectly and than about 12 minutes in the car stopped charging and when I attempted to restart it said plug
Not inserted correctly. This happened again at the El Centro Location as well. This Vortex was part of the Version two after the fail with the tolerances on the clip mechanism. I email them for a refund we will see happens. If you plan on using the new version two, you better have a backup. When I saw the CEO with the guy from Sate of Charge, I thought they knew there shit. Apparently just a money grab

Recently came across one just left attached to the end of a supercharger cable. I tried my damndest to get it off and it wasn’t going to happen. The thing is now a permanent fixture until Tesla finds a way to get it off.

I’ve had the same disconnected message show up when it’s hot out. I now keep the adapter in the truck and not in the frunk. I’ve also used canned air to cool my adapter back down. The thermo sensors are disconnecting the connection for sure. Little bit of a pain but cooling it down fixed the issue.

With adapter in the charge port, you might be able to extract the Supercharger plug. Push plug forward, wiggle, might just take enough pressure off of the locking tab. Unfortunate Lecteon’s rush to market lead to this. More reason for Tesla to never allow 3rd party adapters.

I bet the Dateland charger pretty warm . Keep the plugs cool in the car on those hot days. The frunk gets pretty how these days.

It's a bummer. I have used a Lectron adapter on my home Tesla charger for over 2 years now. I am surprised their adapter for Superchargers is so bad.

I got the A2Z and it's great so far.

I have the lectron L2 adapter and it consistently overheats when charging outside in the summer. 9.6kwh for 20 minutes and then a drop down to 4.8kwh the rest of the charge. Maybe in a garage is fine but under direct sunlight / 95 degrees this thing is trash.

During the summer, keep your adapter, doesn't matter what brand, in the conditioned space (cab). Keeping it in the frunk will cause it to become warm. If it is already heated when you start, the temperature added by fast charging takes it beyond the thermal cut offs much faster than if it is cool to start plus the cable cooling won't be enough to counter the heat build up at all. You can also do the wet towel trick, but I like to keep a gel neck cooler in the cab as well and it works just as well without adding water into the mix.

The first Lectron adapter I had was the bad latch unit. I still used it on a trip I had to take. Just had to careful when removing. Worked fine no issues. They did replace with the corrected unit. Tested this one on both my Mach-e GTPE and my Rivian. Both worked fine. I received my Rivian Adapter while waiting for the replacement Lectron. (I was in first wave of Rivian sent) I've used it on a few trips for both my Rivian and Mach-e. Worked fine. Did notice twice with Rivian adapt on a trip the station lowered charge speed. It was warm after but not hot. Also, I do keep it in the cab. Side note. I loaned out the Lectron to a friend for a trip. It worked fine for him. Recently Lectron sent me a new beta unit for testing. Have not used it yet on a trip. Looks and connects the same as other unit. Will up date when I trial it.
