Just wanted to provide my feedback in case anyone was looking in to this charger or pre-purchase hunting.

My wife has a Tesla so I sold the gen 3 Tesla charger and purchased the universal one and wow. The adapter is nice, very very small. It appears to be well engineered. The car connected and charged right up

I figured I would share my experience in case anyone was on the fence. It’s Cheaper than the Rivian charger as well, without the native features of course.

you can get 10% off through Lowe’s as well with the military discount.

Love mine too. I have a pair with the combo and the NACS and let them load share a 60A circuit without issues. So glad I went that route.

I installed mine a couple weekends ago and love it. I know I haven’t been using it long but so far so good.

Was that during the rain the past couple weeks? Assuming everything went fine with the adapter. Unless your charging inside..

Yep. I Love Rivian but Tesla's charging products are some of the best in the business and the pricing can't be beat for what you get.

We are using the Tesla Charger also (J1772 version). Works great, best charger (wall connector) in my opinion.

An unfortunate incident involving an ice patch by our Rivian wall charger and an Ioniq 5 with all-season tires resulted in a broken Rivian Wall Charger at my business (luckily just the handle/connector broke, and not the car's port). I decided that the Tesla Universal Wall charger was a no-brainer with NACS adoption on the horizon, and this being a charger employees have access to, some of whose cars could have CCS or NACS ports in the future.

I'm not sure why anyone would pay more for the Rivian charger when the Tesla one is smaller, has a built-in adapter, and both put out the same ~11kW of juice. I would recommend this EVSE to anyone looking to install a fixed unit (which you should if you can).

Yup. I had a pre-order for the Rivian charger along with my original R1S purchase, but then I switched to lease and canceled my Rivian charger and went with the Tesla Universal Wall charger.

NO issues with it, and have a load management system installed (in lieu of panel upgrade to 200A), and has been working without any hitches.

[The other reason for going with Tesla universal wall charger was that Rivian wall chargers seem to have issues with intermittent disconnects/breaker needing to be reset/ Rivian techs to do a reset remotely, etc. ]

I’m still shocked how small and aesthetically pleasing the adapter is compared to what’s on the market lol. With Tesla warranty and same weather resistance.

The TUWC (yes, I did that) doesn’t qualify for energy credits (atleast with my provider) for off-peak charging. But the benefits outweigh the cost advantage from what I’m hearing.

Do they sell one of these Universal chargers that plugs into a 14-50 NEMA outlet?

Does anyone know if you could just swap out the front part of a wall charger and the cables, but keep the backplate and wiring in place from an existing Tesla Wall Charger? I have a gen 2 connected to a 60A breaker and I would like to not have to use an adapter to charge at home.

Are there ANY advantages to getting the Rivian wall charger? Does it play nicer with the Rivian phone app or anything?

I don’t like buying Tesla products but like the idea of CCS and NACS in one unit. (Please, Rivian, make a universal wall mounted charger.)

(And, okay, the actual charger is a part in the car, I’ve read. What’s this wall thing many of us call a “charger” supposed to be called?)

Hardwire only. That’s how it works the best. I know they used to have a plug in version. Not anymore.
