Have had an issue with scheduled charging in the app...the location keeps resetting to the service center, resulting in the vehicle charging outside of the scheduled window. Hasn't happened for a few days so hoping it was fixed by a recent update.

Also...tin can door closing feel and door alignment...

My Gen2 R1S likes to wake up when my phone comes near it at home, but not my spouses. Proximity lock at home has been disabled.

- Console USB-C ports stopped working. As many others have reported, at one point I noticed my drive cam icon said it was disabled even though it had been working earlier in the day, and sure enough both USB-C ports inside the console were inoperative. A soft reset fixed them.
I think it's a software issue with the e-fuses. Thankfully a soft reset fixes it easily enough.

Not gonna lie, this thread makes me kinda wish I had bought a ā€˜24 off the shop instead. But we’ll see.

plenty of people with gen1 issues and plenty of flawless gen1’s too
We just traded in a gen1 R1S for a Gen2. Overall the build quality on our gen2 is much better, it's significantly quieter so far. Both by design, and with fewer rattles. The "issues" with the gen2 are the door handle noises are somewhat annoying, but they honestly are on Gen1 as well if you sit in the vehicle and lock/unlock it. There do seem to be some growing pains with the Gen2 software, but over time I expect the things that are causing those issues will become a net improvement for both Rivian and owners.

And, FWIW, we had a meridian sound system in our Gen1. The premium audio in our Gen2 sounds better. For whatever reason, the audio system in our Gen1 R1S never sounded nearly as good as it does in my R1T.

Thankfully so far all of the issues I’ve had seem like software issues in the sense they are transient and resolve after a soft reset or sleep.

Otherwise agree that the overall build quality seems much better than my Gen 1.

My '25 dual max scheduled for delivery tomorrow delayed indefinitely as they have an issue recognizing all the battery cells. Mentioned they dont know if its hardware or software issue. I think I have more of a problem being that they told me this afternoon, after they did an inspection when it was originally delivered from the factory well over a week ago AND after the factory inspection.

I had an early 2018 Model 3 so have been through the motions that come with a new'ish vehicle and have the patience for this. My wife, not so much so hoping for good news by Monday..

Could be worse, my replacement vehicle for my lemon buyback had pickup cancelled < 24 hours before the appointment because they ran into something at the service center and damaged the vehicle. Hopefully they resolve for you quickly.

I'm with you on the wife ?. I expect gen2 will have some "teething issues" due to it it was a major architecture change. Rivian changed a lot "under the hood" but in the long term it will be a better vehicle and Rivian will work out any kinks and take care of their customers ...patience.

True....but best to temper your expectations. I believe there are still people with non-funcrioning powered tonneau covers that are over two years old.

Wanted to share my update on my Gen2 Max R1s. Yesterday, roughly 24 hours before delivery, I was informed by the SC in San Diego something wasn't right with the battery. This afternoon the SC decided to perform a battery replacement. They said 3 weeks to replace and install it. I am assuming its 1 month but hope they beat it.

With that said, this situation got immediate attention. I have been only dealing with the San Diego delivery manager which has been great. They brought me a '23 R1S to use while I wait being that I sold a Tesla last week in prep for this delivery. I am going tomorrow to go over the vehicle to see if there is anything else wrong. Hoping this is an outlier situation and no one else runs into this.

How was your experience with the SD delivery team and service center?

I have an R1S Ascend QM pre-order and I am concerned reading issue after issue.

I have only been working with Jesus who is the SD Delivery Manager and has been great. I assume the QM is a ways out so all of these issues with the vehicles will be resolved by that point.

Encountered a new issue this morning where the AC wasn’t cooling the air at all on my way to work, which I noticed because since I’ve owned it it has always put out absolutely frigid air. At that point I also noticed a weird noise that sort of reminded me of the whine of a frozen AC trying to run (I don’t think it was actually frozen because it was too warm and hadn’t been running long enough for that).

In any case, I shut off the AC and the noise stopped. I left it off for another 10-15 minutes while I stopped for coffee and then it was back to spewing very cold air without the weird noise when I turned it back on. It was fine driving home later, too, although now I’m very sensitive to the AC noises/vibration and am questioning whether it sounded a little different still. I guess we’ll see if it keeps working.

That’s exactly what ours did on delivery day. Resolved itself without explanation. When it’s working, it blows very cold. Had a few other heat pump noises and vibrations that are pretty concerning (far beyond the usual loud heat pump/fan noise) that also go away. The number of reports about AC issues popping up on here is not reassuring. Some seem to be fully shot and stuck at SCs, others like yours and mine are intermittent. Hope we can gather more info about the cause(s) as folks get theirs fixed at SCs.

Just curious what year your Gen 1 R1S trade-in was? I’ve driven multiple earlier versions (i.e., launch edition) and couldn’t believe how much quieter and seemingly better quality built my 2024 is compared to those.

I think alot of build quality has been random. I have an early R1T and the build quality is on par with my previous vehicles from Acura and Lexus. Slightly less, but not substantially.
