I received the NACS charger three days ago and decided to test it at a Telsa site before I actually needed it. When I first plugged it in, it looked like it was going to start changing but after a few seconds I got an error that said Payment Issue. I checked and my card info was correct. I unplugged and tried again. Then I got a Vehicle Connection error. After the 3rd failed time unplugging and plugging it back in, I called Rivian support. They had me delete and reenter my card but I don't think that was the issue as it didn't resolve the issue. After 10 minutes on the phone they said they wanted me to do a hard reset. (Holding the left most button on the steering wheel and the hazard button down) Once that was complete, I tried again and the changing finally worked.

The Rivian rep alluded to this being a know issue. And before the reset was completed, she said that if this didn't work, because it was a third party system, I would have to get with Tesla. Which I was not happy about. But I'm glad the hard reset worked.

Changing got up to 215 kWw but came down to 190 -170 kWw after a minute or so. I started at 51% SOC. The charging cost also surprised me. I only charged for a few minutes but .47 per kWh verses .30 kWh was more than I expected from what I had paid at Charge Point in the past. But this would be a lot faster. I don't have a Tesla subscription. I also received an email from Rivian about the changing session with all the details which was nice. Charge Point doesn't do that.

I hope this helps.

i had the same issue at an EA station recently and a hard reset fixed the communication errors with the vehicle. Seems to be a Rivian thing versus the charging network.

Charging prices are all over the place. I've seen as low as 22 cents (Supercharger at Red Rock Casino, NV) and about 60 cents at a SC in Kingman AZ and an EA in Buckeye AZ. RAN seems to be most stable and low cost, in the 30-some cent range.

Always find the $/Minute fast chargers in the area you'll be charging, those are the cheapest. Unfortunately none are Tesla, so alternative is to join the Tesla membership.

Why were you unhappy with Rivian saying if the reset didn’t work contact Tesla. It can be a third party issue so reasonable for them to say.

I guess the waiting for months for the adapter and it not working the first time I used it got me started. I've had other companies do the same thing multiple times. Saying "It's not our fault, it must be you". Or blaming something else. But, I'm glad they did resolve it.

Welcome to leading edge technology. I tested the adapter I bought and just got lucky although it wasn't quite a simple as I thought. Just parking my T correctly to avoid covering other spaces required a few drive arounds and some thought.

I was presently surprised that the newer Tesla spot I went to had the chargers installed away from the curb. So backing up in the spot, lined up the plug right with the Rivian charge port. But I'm sure I blocked one spot. If the place had other cars charging, I may have had an issue.

Two days after reading this I met a man at a Rivian charger who on his first road trip with his new R1S. He was not able to get the charging established and was well on his way to frustration. Based on your comment I suggested he try the hard reset. It worked. He was very happy. Thanks for taking the time to share.

I wish I had figured it out at the previous EA station that same day where I spent 15 minutes and 3 different units trying to start a charge.
