Starts at $59,995 and lowest priced “launch” at $65,495. I think there will be a sustainable niche market for this vehicle.

My wife saw this a few years back (before we put a deposit down on the Rivian)and to my surprise she wanted one. I was reminded of the camping trips I used to take in a Westfalia when I was young and nostalgia begged me to get one. Then came the rumor that the the range on the Eurospec was up to 230~miles of range. That's when I knew I had to crush my wife's dream of the electric van. We would still consider it if the US spec was up to 300 miles of range, but that's also not even possible for this current model year. At least offer an option to buy a larger battery VW!

My wife absolutely wants one, although she has not yet seen launch pricing.

She’ll see it tonight, look and me in the eyes and say “nope!” in a way that chills me to the marrow.

Bummer, because they really are neat to look at. Not a bummer, because VW is f*@&%*g legendary at finding ways to ruin good cars and stranding me with a $2500 repair bill for a failed $0.25 component.

IMHO, after the initial "buzz" dies down and the faithful that REALLY want this vehicle purchase theirs, VW will have a HARD time selling with that price / range and basic plasticky interior.

My wife was super looking forward to the Buzz. But hell, their original concept was out before the world even heard of Rivian...

She likes her R1S now and said it looks like she would be giving up too much for the Buzz.

I think this the Buzz looks like a lot of fun, but should be 300 miles of range.

I personally won't get one but I would love to see one and check it out.

What kills everything will be the dealer markups on this thing. I remember when the new beetle came out, people paid crazy markups.

Way too expensive for what you get IMO. For those range stats this thing should start under 50. Sad given all the potential but this thing is a big miss in my book, and that's from someone who was excited to order one not so long ago.

We wanted to trade in our minivan for this but at this price plus dealer markup plus range equals a hard sell

Our friends at VW chose to use a servo-actuated lock to secure the charge plug to the port. This is not out of ordinary, but they found a way to make it a total PITA.

First, operationally - it can only be unlocked when the car is unlocked, and if you’re done charging, it’s still firmly attached. That’s annoying and a “feature” but worth pointing out because it’s stupid.

For the repair - the servo is a $1 part, quite literally. It is mounted behind the wheel well, as the charge port was put exactly where the fuel filler would be. If the computer is unable to identify the servo is closed, it will not allow the car to charge - period. This means when the servo starts to pack up - because it’s in a spot where more dirt collects than normal - the car is basically bricked because you can’t charge (L2 or L3 - doesn’t matter).

VW charges $2k+ for the repair. For a $1 part. That they put in a place where it was bound to prematurely fail. Ours had 35k on it when it went.

I’m curious what makes this worth $20k more than the ID.4 its mechanically similar to.

Slow and bad range; unless you really like the nostalgia/looks it would be hard to justify imo.

I do think it’s cool though.
