Mine 100% has this. It only surfaced after installing 27 last night. I am hearing it on both left and right sides

2023 R1S 9,400mi, was parked for 7 days.

Is this safe to drive? I have a camping trip planned next week. ? Service appointment booked for December 4.

Any tips or keywords or tips I can tell the service center?

The service guys call it "the tings" and that's what my truck needed. As you probably know, there is a service bulletin out for these but it was never applied to my truck so I never got anything. But now it's fixed and the sound is gone.

Same sound, perhaps not as bad. Mine went into the Denver Service Center yesterday around noon, had it back today around the same time. 24 hour turn. so what did they fix?

It should be safe to drive but I’m no mechanic. I drove mine over 1000 miles back-and-forth from Denver to crested Butte, but I have no issue with mine at high speeds. The sound is only when I’m going under 5 miles an hour, but I never had an issue and now it’s fixed.

I mentioned the TSB to Rivian (upcoming service appt in Oct) and they briefly said that TSB is for 2018 models or something way older than mine. I reiterated that I’ve been reading the bolt + washer is fixing the issue regardless on VINs not included in that TSB. I guess we’ll see what they say. I’m not backing down. We shouldn’t spend upwards of $100k on a vehicle to have to deal with a clunking sound all the time.

Mine has the annoying CLUNK front left drivers side (strut replaced under warranty inside 5,000 miles) and going to Denver service center in 2 weeks to hopefully at least get the new bolts. It’s honestly embarrassing, pulling up anywhere and having this truck click and clunk all over the place. You can clearly hear it in this video and only happens at low speed. Love the truck otherwise.

I have exact issue going on since 3 months at 14k miles and right now R1S is at SFO service center

Just got my truck back from service over this clunking sound. Had a loaner truck with 26k 2023 VIN with 5k miles no clunking. Got my truck back, which only has 10k miles, they did not fix it, noted within spec...

*oddly enough accelerated pedal and break pedal were way more sensitive on the loaner in the same standard height soft suspension config same 20 inch off road wheels /tires adventure trim. Wind noise was notably lower too. I think there was a mid cycle mini update to some components in mid 2023 that likely helped with this. Mine was an early 2023 VIN.

That is extremely frustrating and the exact scenario that will push me away, along with my R2 reservation and those of some others I've introduced to the brand. I will not speak highly of a company that won't take care of their customers. This truck is capable of being awesome (and it was, initially) but doing stuff like this to your early adopters is inexcusable. Call it a design flaw or whatever you want, that isn't our problem, this is not normal and should not have to be accepted.

I've had three different R1 loaners and not one of them has had this issue.

I will be taking my truck in for a fifth time next week. I specifically only included this issue on the work order this time since Rivian service seems to just fix whatever they feel like that particular day. This sound on my truck is now worse than it has ever been and driving me crazy to the point where I opt to drive another vehicle when possible.

Mine has been making this sound for almost a year. I have 24,884 miles on it. I also brought it to the service center6 months ago. They did not fix it. I will watch this thread and maybe try and fix it myself.

I agree. It is so horrible that they are not rectifying this problem and ignoring customers. My car is at SFO service center since 10 days and still in queue for the exact same issue and I am really not sure what is going to happen.

shall we collect basic information like #of owners affected, model & year and send a group communication to CEO?

This is my experience too. Service fixes whatever they feel like, ignoring some items, over addressing others. I had a passenger seat rattle. I think it was the belt buckle harness not being properly screwed in. They replaced the whole seat and now I have a new seat with the OG wood trim on the back and my drivers seat has the plastic trim. Now another service visit to fix the mismatch. Not complaining about the new seat, just surprised some items get more attention than others. I have requested service look at my suspension at pretty much every one of my 7 service visits but nothing got fixed. Seems like gen 2 may have gotten overall revamped suspension components to address this.

I’ve never off roaded with my truck. It’s been used for mostly day to day tasks. Really surprising the suspension sounds like an old beat up truck.

Update on my R1S on this clunking sound from front -

Halfshaft, Front, RH (Remove and Replace)
Front Halfshafts Other Labor
Noise Vibration and Harshness General Diagnostic

already drove 100+ miles no noise so far…hope this is fixed permanently. Don’t want to give my R1S for 2 more weeks.
