That's all good and fine, but luxury features were the topic, not subjective feelings on styling. My point was that the Grand Cherokee is targeting Range Rover from a luxury standpoint and they pretty much nailed it. Rivian, on the other hand, has a premium price tag without the luxury features people have come to expect. And that's fine because it's an electric vehicle and luxury isn't really what a Rivian is about. It's an "adventure" vehicle.
No the topic is what makes something luxury, and it's not features.

[off-road.

? Okay.. next time I go shopping for a luxury vehicle, I'll forget about features and tell them that it's the topic that matters. No need for those pesky massaging seats. Or that silly night vision.

You are the king of backpeddling, I'll give you that. ?

How am I backpedaling? I knew trying to explain something like style to you was a mistake. Thinking your Jeep is on par with a Range Rover proves my point. The word backpedaling doesn't apply here because I'm standing by my original point that equipment doesn't make luxury style does.

I am not disagreeing because this is a personal definition so it literally can't be "wrong"...

But for me.....equipment matters as much as style does.

If it is about color pallets and an extra run of stitching in a few places....and extra piece of plastic covered in vinyl....for me....that isn't luxury without a lot to back it up. To me....it looks great....but I have seen many low end vehicles have good to great interior styling....without anything behind the good looks. This is maybe why my current position on Accent is that it is largely color pallets and perforation patterns. I would actually prefer a better audio system that everything they did to the Accent interior. And that would make it more luxurious.

For me....it is about top notch audio...proper materials....sound of doors closing....lack of rattles...in addition to the things you list.

I agree that equipment matters; I'm not trying to say that it doesn't factor in at all. You can't have something without some premium feature set and call it luxury, but without style, you also cannot have luxury. Putting in all the premium features without cohesion or style gives you an Inspector Gadget, not a James Bond. It's the refinement that takes you the rest of the way.

For me, that refinement is important and the Ascent interior has it. I would like the Meridian system that's in my R1T, but I'm not as harsh on the sound system as others here because up until the Apple Music update my Meridian system was decent but nowhere near as good as it is now, so I have faith that Rivian can push some software to make what's in the Gen 2's better.

I also am coming from an R1T that has no rattles, doors close solidly and is very quiet and stable. The driving performance is top-notch notch, and the tri I test drove was also very well put together. If the audio gets better it will be where it needs to be to give me the feel that the car is worth what it costs.

@Donald Stanfield, I usually agree with you, but this case, I have to say our 2023 GC-L Summit Reserve High Altitude literally has every feature you could imagine on a vehicle.

I really appreciate the heads-up display, which is not available in the R1. I also greatly prefer the opening sunroof that can be covered when not in use. The Marantz sound system is the loudest and clearest audio I have ever heard in a vehicle. It goes so loud it is unbelievable how clear it sounds at that volume, with extremely strong bass.

It drives like a boat, but to most people, that is what comfort is. And it definitely has decent off-road capabilities. It is not at R1 level, of course, but that isn't relevant for a luxury vehicle, IMO.

There is a display on the dash in front of the passenger for my wife to play with. I have not gotten any use out of that feature, but still, pretty luxury. The rear seats are heated and cooled, and it has Amazon Fire tablets built into the headrests (and connected to the audio system) for the rear passengers.

This is not mine, but this is exactly what mine looks like inside. It is a great looking vehicle.

To me the R1 isn't about luxury, it is about capability. Certainly you want a $100k vehicle to be nice inside, but that is not what attracts me to the R1. It is the speed and utility. And the drivetrain technology.

Those are the things I love about the R1, and why I personally prefer it over the GC. Even if it costs $25k more. My wife is a different story, and so the GC is for her. I do really, really like it though.
Small correction here, it's a McIntosh sound system...not Marantz.

HUD is one of the best features you can get on a car these days. All new vehicles should come with it.
Yes, a simple thing Tesla's could add in the Y and 3 that would make a lot of people happy since they don't have second screen behind the drivers wheel. Perhaps even draw in new customers??

@White Shadow,
I have taken on the sand in the NC OBX, but nothing serious. My wife freaked out when I said I was going to take it on the beach. But that is one of the reasons I wanted it! I did it anyway. She got over it. ?

The reason I think it is not R1 level is due to the suspension and how you can't put bigger tires on it. I could install smaller rims with more rubber, but the diameter of the wheel is maxed out with what is on there now. I am not sure why they designed it that way. Traditional Jeep people are not impressed.

I knew that! Brain fart.

The sound quality is just incredible. I can't over emphasize how good it is.

Yeah, I've heard it, sounds fantastic. That company is known for VERY high end home audio...pricey though.
I would really like to get a MC1502....but haven't convinced myself to pull the trigger yet. I know if I do...it will start a very slippery slope and I might lose restraint....
