I just got back from Hawaii, where I rented a Wrangler Sahara. It was a little "squirrely" at highway speeds (especially with the soft top and some strong cross-winds on the island), but I would say it is 10x better driving than my R1T. It was refreshing driving a vehicle that didn't sound or feel like the suspension is going to fall to pieces constantly. I just can't come to terms with how awful the R1T suspension is, and Rivian service's complete inability to fix it.

And I know I have a low bar of expectation if I think a Wrangler handles well. I just can't go back to an ICE vehicle after owning both a Tesla and a Rivian now. Jeep 4xe and back to gas stations and oil changes? No thank you.
OOF - There is something seriously wrong with your Rivian if a Wrangler rides better. Sorry you are having those issues. I have had my front and rear subframes replaced and largely all noise is gone and mine rides like a dream.

I have both of these vehicles, but I went the opposite way! Jeep first, Rivian second.

The jeep is pretty awesome if you don't mind a rough ride. They are easy to drive, easy to park/fit in tight spots and obviously extremely capable offroad. The ability to take the top off is nice. Also being able to upgrade /change components like legos is awesome.

The AWD mode in the 4XE is also a huge plus in the winter time or slick conditions.

That being said they are not problem free. Be sure to keep your alignment in spec, tires rotated and all your steering/suspension joints tight and to spec. Death wobble is not a fun experience and can/will happen if anything gets out of whack.
Thanks for the advice on keeping the suspension components tight, will definitely keep an eye on that stuff, and I always rotate my own tires, so that's not an issue.

I did do a VIN check for my vehicle on the battery fire list, model year 2024's are not recalled, they already have the new packs installed. But, thanks for mentioning it :)

The correlation coefficient to R1T and Jeep owners for those of us that have both or switch between the two is high.

It's really bad. I am going to press Rivian hard to fix this at my upcoming appointment. So glad to hear stories of people having a great experience. Gives me some hope.

Just did the same. Ordered an F150 lighting it comes in this weekend. Went with pro power and standard range. It’s going. Be a down grade on creature comforts and handling. This is my version of going back to basics for an EV.

Wanted to get out before the market gets just more and more saturated with used Rivian’s.

Man I am sorry to see this but as long as your happy with the decision that is all that matters. Any reason why you decided get rid of your T?

As a side note you did pretty well on trade considering the current market for used vehicles....especially EVs because everyone seems to be afraid of taking them on trade.

My opinion here...nowhere near as much fun as the Rivian...but...it is a competent machine.
Thank you ken!

It took their trade specialist about 20 min to come back with a number on the trade in value because he said he just didn't have many sales to go by. KBB range was something like $59K - $63K so I don't think them giving me $60K for it was terrible seeing how Carvana, Carmax, Cars.com, all were offering only $54K to purchase it :(

Just wanted to mention I traded in my R1T for a Wrangler 4xe Rubicon yesterday.
The Jeep 4xe has about a 30 mile all battery (17kWh pack) range and a 340mi ICE range. It's got 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque with actual real lockers front and rear. That 30 mil battery range should suite me fine for probably 95% off my driving (I work from home). The dealer gave me $60K on the Rivian trade-in which in NY goes 100% to the pre-tax value of the new vehicle, so I actually will end up about $1,900 ahead once I file my taxes and get the $3,750 Fed tax credit early next year.

Jeep is trying to clear out 2024 models right now, so they have crazy incentives right now. The Rubicon was $71K, but with incentives it knocked $10K off so it was $61K before the $3,750 fed tax credit.

When trading it in, I forgot to give them the camp speaker as I replaced it with a draw a couple months back, I also forgot to give them the bag for the tonneau cover panels, I kept the NACS-J1772 adapter I just received two weeks ago, and I also kept the wristband because that did not come with my R1T. I guess I'll sell the NACS adapter as the Jeep only has level 2 charging.

I was a pre March price increase customer, after the fed tax credit I took in 2023, my R1T cost $68K, I had it for almost two full years and got $60K for it on the trade in, I consider that pretty decent.

Old ride meet new ride....

Whoa! Sorry to see you go - especially after all our vampire drain collaboration! I think we were early on the getting the wristbands from eBay last year too!

I do like the 4XE and hope you enjoy yours. Congrats. Hope to see you back in an R2! I have really appreciated your contributions here.

Care to share some background? What was the problem with the Rivian? Did you have a lot of issues with it?

Either way, congrats on the new vehicle. Glad you're happy. Just hoping to satisfy my curiosity with the questions above.
Thank you!

See post# 15 for my thoughts/reasons.

Best wishes with your new Jeep. One of my sons has the very same one, even the same color. I have driven his. It's a nice truck, but a little rough riding for me.

Brian
Thanks Brian, I test drove a Wrangler 4xe Sport which had more SUV/sedan tires and it was smoother than the Rubicon with it's larger knobby off road tires, but, the Rubicon Ride was acceptable to me.

My wife actually wants a Jeep now. She is coming from a Lexus GX. Kids are grown and she just wants something a little more fun and easy to park. I know ZERO about Jeeps (long time Toyota 4Runner guy). Anyone here have any recommendations you would make for someone in my situation? She was asking the other day which particular model she should consider, and I had zero input I could offer. We did rent a 4XE on our latest trip, and it handled and drove well - just a lot of road noise.

I can't imagine going from one of best and fastest driving Trucks on the road to one of the objectively worst handling vehicles for daily driving (and I have nothing against jeeps or BOF 4 wheelers - I drive a 70s Land Cruiser too).

I assume you had problems with the Rivian?
No problem with my R1T, mainly wanted something smaller, but also wanted off road chops and it had to be a partial plug-in so I could use it for everyday errands in full EV mode.

Hope you enjoy the new ride.

Just a PSA, do not charge the battery until this recall is performed, it may have already been done but I’m not sure the fix has started yet.
Thank you!

I did check my VIN before purchase, it's after the recall VIN's.

We have three JL's and love them all. Not to mention...knock on wood....ours have all been flawless basically. And when the few things we had done were needed....the dealer got me in within days....and repaired same day or next....and not items that were affecting driveability.

Dealers all vary(like Rivian service centers)....but if you have a good one....they can be really good!

Congrats and enjoy!
My dealer told me most repairs are scheduled out by about 1 to 2 weeks as well, not months. I like the fact that there are 5 jeep dealership within a 20 mile distance of my house. Not to mention the tons of aftermarket parts available for Jeeps and the other very important fact that I can order almost any part for the vehicle from a local jeep dealer and via online parts sellers and parts and wiring diagrams are freely available online. Rivian is positively anal when it comes to keeping stuff like that secret to common owners.

I can't imagine going back to a gas vehicle. Driving them now feel like buggy's but everyone has their own preferences...
Neither can I, that's why I picked a vehicle that can run in pure EV mode for 95% of my trips.
