You must not do trails we do....my R1T would high center on over half the rocks...

And as far as on road.....that is why I have the R1T. More than one arrow in the quiver. R1T is most well rounded vehicle I have ever owned....by alot.....but noway it can do what a lifted Rubicon with lockers and 35's and lifted...with a winch just in case....can do.

Just like it can't keep up in corners with a proper sports car.

Comes dang close....on both ends....which is what is so impressive...and rides on highway like a dream....but it has limitations...like all all purpose solutions.

I did go through a Rubicon phase years ago. It happens.

I just realized that when wanting to spend time in nature I'd rather hike, then spend tons of money on a specialized off-road vehicle to drive over rocks in a forest. I can go a lot more places on foot and cause a lot less damage that way.

I joined you as well 2-months ago and went back to a Toyota Tacoma. The R1T was just to “car like” for me and I missed the higher seating position of a pickup.

The loose sounding front end, never ending vampire drain and 3-month wait for a service appointment were the tipping points. I also wanted to sell before we hit 2025 to avoid further depreciation.

Went through the hidden storage compartment in the back today, found this back there alongside the OEM EVSE.

It's a Jeep brand OEM "power box" that you plug in to the J1772 port and it gives you two independent 15amp outlets. It's included with 2024 Rubicon models. Pretty cool in addition to the center console mounted 115V outlet :)

Best thing I have seen in this thread. Inverter is part of the box?

Edit - nope. Vehicle has to have support for this. https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/2024-jeep-wrangler-4xe-power-box-deep-dive-review/
Can It Be Retrofitted?

No. Power Box operation requires a unique inverter in the vehicle featuring silicon that supports bidirectional charging. It was this Integrated Dual Charging Module (IDCM) that was among the supply-chain hold-ups that fouled the Power Box launch.

Just wanted to mention I traded in my R1T for a Wrangler 4xe Rubicon yesterday.
The Jeep 4xe has about a 30 mile all battery (17kWh pack) range and a 340mi ICE range. It's got 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque with actual real lockers front and rear. That 30 mil battery range should suite me fine for probably 95% off my driving (I work from home). The dealer gave me $60K on the Rivian trade-in which in NY goes 100% to the pre-tax value of the new vehicle, so I actually will end up about $1,900 ahead once I file my taxes and get the $3,750 Fed tax credit early next year.

Jeep is trying to clear out 2024 models right now, so they have crazy incentives. The Rubicon was $71K, but with incentives it knocked $10K off so it was $61K before the $3,750 fed tax credit.

When trading it in, I forgot to give them the camp speaker as I replaced it with a draw a couple months back, I also forgot to give them the bag for the tonneau cover panels, I kept the NACS-J1772 adapter I just received two weeks ago, and I also kept the wristband because that did not come with my R1T. I guess I'll sell the NACS adapter as the Jeep only has level 2 charging.

I was a pre March price increase customer, after the fed tax credit I took in 2023, my R1T cost $68K, I had it for almost two full years and got $60K for it on the trade in, I consider that pretty decent.

Old ride meet new ride....

That is an awesome trade-in value! Rivian just offered me $44,000 on my early vin launch edition with 54,000.

Let's look at my driving patterns this way... I had my R1T for almost 2 full years... I only put 4,100 miles on it, so it's really just a local driver to go to Home Depot, or Costco, etc. It's not like I'm commuting 100miles every work day, I work from home.. my "commute" is from the kitchen up to my office, about a 15 second commute.
4,100 miles in 2 years? Wow... I've had mine since end of June and already creeping on 3,600mi and I work from home as well. Sounds like what you wanted is a fun weekend-toy type of car, which the Jeep can suit really well. You can mod it like crazy without having to worry about compromising daily use. Enjoy the new ride, cheers!

Coming up fast on 2025 was a big factor and was also a factor on why Jeep was offering the huge $7,500 incentive, plus the dealer discount of $2,000 plus the NY Drive Clean POS rebate o $500. Add those to the $3,7500 fed tax credit I'll get.. that's $13,750 off the $71K sticker price. In the end, $57K for the Rubicon which is a pretty loaded trim level seamed reasonable to me.

They are offering all those discounts because Jeep is doing terribly right now. Stelantis overall is doing terribly right now, arguably worse than Rivian.

I’ve owned multiple Jeeps over many years. I traded a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT in when I bought my R1S. I’ll never go back. My last couple of Jeeps were nightmares. I had multiple emission issues which required two full replacements of the exhaust system to the tune of $5000 each. The electrical system had multiple glitches and I had to replace the entertainment system twice. Jeep’s quality has gone way down. I’d suggest getting rid of your Jeep before the warranty runs out.

Please explain why it was too car like and how Tacoma would have a higher seating position? I'm curious what you mean.

Jeeps are chewing up the inventory at the dealerships. They are poorly made and come with numerous defects. What do you expect, they are made by Fiat.

While the idea shared by all plugin hybrids of having “xx Miles” EV range sounds great, it is not really true. I have not tried the Jeep 4xe but have driven many including BMW X5 and found this. If you accelerate quickly , climb a hill, or try to go over 70 mph the ICE kicks in to assist. A common joy of all my 6 different EVs over years has been that quiet, quick, smooth, and effortless acceleration. The plugin hybrids simply don’t have that.
With that said, Is the Jeep any different?

Thanks for reading..

I have both of these vehicles, but I went the opposite way! Jeep first, Rivian second.

The jeep is pretty awesome if you don't mind a rough ride. They are easy to drive, easy to park/fit in tight spots and obviously extremely capable offroad. The ability to take the top off is nice. Also being able to upgrade /change components like legos is awesome. I equipped mine with a moderate 1.5" lift and SDI E-Click adapative suspension. It now rides about as good as a Jeep can, which is to say it's much better than a Tacoma, but still worse than the Rivian or a Raptor. You can't have everything though!

The AWD mode in the 4XE is also a huge plus in the winter time or slick conditions.

That being said they are not problem free. Be sure to keep your alignment in spec, tires rotated and all your steering/suspension joints tight and to spec. Death wobble is not a fun experience and can/will happen if anything gets out of whack.

The locker sensor can also be problematic (it fills up with gear oil and gives bad position readout), but they have revised that for the newer models. They also seem to need the battery coolant pump replaced frequently and have had several recalls concerning the battery fires. Luckily you picked up a 2024 which is apparently clear of this issue. I am hoping that this model year they have finally been dialed in and won't have any major issues going forward.

I'm actually pretty excited for the 4XE gladiator coming out. To have the daily electric option, extra power when needed, ability to fill up with gas, regen braking and a truck bed will be the ideal setup for me.

Since I've purchased my Rivian though, I have hardly driven the Jeep. Unless I'm going somewhere super sketchy/tight offroad I'd honestly prefer to drive the Rivian in all cases.
I went from an old (2007) Wrangler to Rivian and I agree with your assessment. For me the ride quality and daily pleasure in the Rivian outweighs anything from my Jeep (Loved it off-road, hated it driving to the trails, despised it as a daily driver... but LOVED it out on the trails...) My Rivian I love it all the time.

I thought I would like the removable top, but in Arizona I NEVER take it off the Jeep.... it's too hot most of the year (brutal to be driving with 115 degree wind, its suffocating... even when 60 out the SUN IS BRUTAL ... perfect weather, still with the intensity of the sun it's miserable)

The LEGO comment is what drew me... YES there are endless possibilities... but like LEGO they are ALL expensive as hell. So you have a million upgrades, but man are they pricey...

That depends on how you look at it. It’s a definite trade up in off-road ability, serviceability and drivability in tight spaces.
