On my one week old gen2 R1S with premium audio:
I used a pink noise generator on my phone over Bluetooth, then used a frequency analyzer with A-weighting and adjusted until it generally looked flattish. Sorry, I didn't take a screenshot on my phone. But, it definitely sounds better than flat EQ. I'll probably play around with it more after giving the speakers time to break in, but it definitely helped some of the thinness of the sound.

Here are the slightly more detailed steps I followed that anyone could follow in their own vehicle:

I connected my Android phone via BT, then used this app to play Pink Noise:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.vazquezsoftware.whitenoise

Then I put my phone near my head and used this app to analyze the sound trying to make the bars relatively flat, using A-weighting:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dom.audioanalyzer

There isn't anything special about these apps, but that's what worked for me.

I've been driving around for a few days now, and it sounds very good to me. I still don't like that the sound sounds like it's coming from the middle, aka to the right of me. So, I put my head in the middle and liked the centering better, but the EQ sounded different. So, maybe they're optimizing for the middle? Either way, test where your head is, as it'll change as you move around.

Thank you for sharing your EQ settings. These are the best I've heard yet on my gen 2 premium system.

Thank you for posting your settings! I found the bass to be a little too overpowering and 4K freq to have some clipping so brought those down a touch. Somewhere between your curve and my last curve. Getting closer….

Thanks for sharing these ideas. I'm a complete n00b on this stuff so I apologize if my thoughts/questions are very basic.
  1. I used a couple of Pink Noise sound tracks on Spotify since that is the main source of my audio in the vehicle. Does that make sense or is the app with BT streaming better?
  2. Adjusting the EQ didn't have a big difference in the levels in the Sound Analyzer app. I tested at about 50% volume and used the Spectrum Analyzer looking at Octave Bands, A-Weighting, with Fast Weighting. Is the quality of the mic in the phone a limiting factor in this (I have a Pixel 9 Pro XL)?
  3. However, I did notice a difference in the sound when I went back to music. There are a few "audiophile" or "HiFi" playlists on Spotify.
  4. I ended up where you did increasing all the sliders at 1K and above, reducing the 250 and 500 (these are the dominant levels) and mostly leaving the low end sliders in the middle as my sub would start clipping on some of the heavy bass songs.
Thanks again and I'll keep playing around with this. I want to see if I can find a better mic for the analyzer and try different sources.

Based on my limited experience playing with EQ settings...
1. The quality of the recording should have minimal impact as it's just trying to play noise with an average noise profile. Any source is about as good as anything else for this test.
2. The frequency analyzer graph has a very large range, the EQ adjustments in the car are more likely +/- 10db. We only have one EQ with fixed frequencies (and other properties), so it's probably best just to set the volume to whatever you listen at. (I've yet to turn mine all the way to 50%, that's so loud! :) ) I used 1/3 bands because I like to see more data. I'd use even narrower if it was available. For the fast vs slow weighting, slow is probably better, but then you have to wait 8 times longer to see the results and keep the mic in exactly the same position. I assume the built in mic is good enough, but you could get a BT mic with a known frequency response for better accuracy. I was just using this to get it pretty close. It's very likely that cell phone mics would filter the really low and high frequencies to match the human voice. But we also record music with our phones too, sooo Meh.
3. ... that's why it'll be very noticeable with music.
4. Thanks for sharing

It looks like after the next update, we'll get to try this again. Please share where you end up.

Thanks for the info. For my next test, I'm going to look for a Windows based sound analyzer as I have a good Blue Yeti mic that I can plug into my laptop (although I accept I may be overanalyzing this :) )

Also, here is an Album called "Audio Test Tones" in Spotify:

HouseCurve for iOS is great for a quick calibration - I'd suggest waiting for the next software release, with a number of audio fixes, before doing anything more intensive, as you're likely to be starting from scratch again.

2024.39.x improved bass response, as indicated in the release notes, but did nothing to improve treble, so time for some new curves! How are others doing?

Has any Gen 2 Prem Audio owner determined if their system is defective? I saw that some Gen 1 owners may have a defective or incorrect amplifier and I am wondering if that may apply to us based on the poor sound quality.

I was curious enough to ask the service tech - he said the amplifier was operating correctly and no obvious errors.

Did they at least agree the system sounds like potatoes?
