.... I like Waze, but it's also not safe to be reporting speed traps or road hazards while driving either....
There's no requirement to report speed traps or road hazards while using Waze. You can still benefit from all of those "unsafe" drivers who do report them though. And for what it's worth, in my vehicles it's always the passenger who does the reporting on Waze if we feel inclined to do so. I suspect that's a pretty common thing for others as well.

No, it was not.

But, I will go ahead and add that too. It is, for many people. Similar to the argument about music in a helmet on a motorcycle. I have ADHD and what is "distraction" to some is focusing for me. If my workload is too low I become VERY unaware and distracted.

But no, I never said this to begin with, and you're once again throwing strawmen to beat down. Changing words is disingenuous.
I didn't "change words". I said originally that any distraction is unsafe. I mentioned touchscreens after that because that is part of the discussion with Waze fans and the studies on the issue back that up as well.

Voice controls and voice to text are also unsafe because you are thinking about something other than what's happening around you on the road (you know - distractions).

Everyone who claims these apps are safer think THEY are the person who can multitask and drive safer than others :CWL:

I completely disagree. I just purchased a Kia EV9 GT in addition to my R1S and the CarPlay is WAY better than having to pay for Rivian's Connect+ in order to listen to music (Spotify, Apple Music, Audible, etc). The wireless CP sounds just as good, if not better, in the EV9 compared to the R1S which is really not as great as they sold it to be. The convenience of Siri, phone and messages is way better too.

I feel like the reason they (Rivian/Tesla) are not allowing this is all about $$, so they can charge for music streaming. If all you were getting with the Connect+ was hotspot Wi-Fi and Sentry cam view, nobody would pay for it, but take away Spotify and may it part of the package and now you have to pay or listen to the radio or Bluetooth audio. That's not right!

So.....eliminating about a third of the population from purchasing your vehicle doesn't matter? Really? I'd think that's a problem, especially for a company trying to increase sales.
I don't think chasing down people who have decided phone mirroring software is the most important feature to them in comparison to everything else is a sound business strategy.

You've NEVER ever been forced to use that. Ever. You can say no.

Misinformation like this is why it's hard to take anyone seriously when they rail against a great feature which is optional.
You've never had a rental car that had an appallingly bad and confusing infotainment system? I suppose if you are just defaulting to using Carplay, you might not even realize that about a rental.

Rental cars from a brand you're not familiar with is a good place for it. A car you drive every day that has a decent system that covers 99% of your uses is where it's unnecessary.

Oh boy.....lol.....it's not about "chasing down" anybody....it's about ELIMINATING one third of all new car buyers right off the bat by choosing not to offer something that they want.

That's a TERRIBLE strategy. I can guarantee you that Rivian would have sold more vehicles if they offered CP/AA.

Why do people keep changing the words and ideas in this thread? Is it on purpose to prove some sort of point?

I said originally that any distraction is unsafe.
Which is false of course, there are plenty of situations where you can safely use screens and especially non-call voice. I do avoid calls, that's distracting as hell.

Just curious.....do you ever listen to the radio when driving a vehicle? If so, isn't that a distraction? Have you ever had a conversation with a passenger while driving a vehicle? If so, isn't that a distraction? Have you ever looked at a billboard while driving a vehilce? If so, isn't that a distraction?

My point is that there are distractions everywhere while driving. It's virtually impossible for anyone to focus 100% of his/her attention on nothing but driving. Little distractions are a way of life. I'm not saying that we should do anything to increase them, I'm simply saying that we can navigate around them if we know how to drive responsibly.

That's quite a guarantee... backed by zero actual evidence :CWL: Just because market research found 1 in 3 demand it does not mean if they offered it their sales would be higher. Not even sure why that needs to be explained.

How do you explain other manufacturers who do offer it also struggling with sales? Can you "guarantee" their sales are 1/3 higher than they would otherwise be if they didn't?

Why do you refuse to answer questions? Is it because you can't come up with a reasonable rebuttal?

I agree with the OP. I’ve used CarPlay for years and prefer what Rivian has done. CarPlay is buggy, and it constantly fights between phones when others are in the car. I love having Tune In as a resident app so I don’t have to use it on my phone.

In comparison to not using them at all? No, there aren't. Distraction is distraction. Saying one distraction is slightly safer than another is just splitting hairs.

Yes, I have done those things (like every person with a drivers license and a vehicle). And yes they are all distractions. I choose to not add another in the form of texting and calling. Thank you for supporting my point.

R1 S is a great car. Only complaint I have is no Apple CarPlay. Is really irritating they won’t add it. Or at least Waze
