FWIW, In looking at some of the articles on this, I found the following related to GM's decision to dump CarPlay (from 9to5 Mac May 2024):
If correct, it explains a lot about why Rivian and GM and Tesla say CP is not coming/coming back.
Apple no longer merely wanted to project a copy of iOS onto the infotainment screen; it wanted the iPhone to oversee the mission-critical cluster behind the steering wheel. This stuff was sacrosanct in Detroit. GM’s Wexler says the next-gen CarPlay, which GM learned of before the announcement, was a “major factor” in its ensuing decision to divorce Apple.

Just because market research found 1 in 3 demand it does not mean if they offered it their sales would be higher. Not even sure why that needs to be explained.
