Before anyone knee-jerk react to this news... WATCH THE VIDEO. IT'S NOT AS BAD AS IT LOOKS.

TLDR:

  • The adapter is not dangerous.
  • But because of changing standards—which sounds to be finalized now—the plastic locking pin may wear and provide less locking force after 10,000 uses.
I think the 10,000 is more of a best case scenario number. The locking pin on my A2Z adapter stopped locking after about 10 uses.

It charges the vehicle just fine, but I can insert, charge, and remove the NACS cable without ever touching the lock slider.

I can't say for sure that it is super dangerous (i'm not dead yet) but the pin is doing nothing to hold the NACS cable in and the non-functional lock is not preventing it from powering up..

This is quite dangerous. If the NACS cable comes unplugged while charging, the arc flash can blind and or burn someone nearby severely.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
A2Z made the process simple. If you get the email, just follow directions - took me 5 mins, and half of that was walking out to car and getting the adapter to get a picture.

A2Z is doing the right thing here. As @sub pointed out, the locking mechanism failure can manifest WAY before the 10k charge cycle claimed.

Sucks that it happened to you, but that's not normal.

Stupid question: when I selected the exchange adapter it say $19x. Also the old one has to be picked up at my store?
How will shipping back the V1 work? Will they provide a box or I should use whatever paperbox I have?

They won’t charge you anything, and I’m not 100% sure yet how they’ll do the shipping logistics. They’ll prob send you another one to your address and you’ll have to print out a label to ship back. Just a guess.

My email after I registered said “Return Method: Create a return shipping for customer“ I assume that will be in a future confirmation email once approved.

Return Status: You have not initiated a return or resold your V1 adapter.

I bought a V1 adapter from someone who had 2 delivered. Looks like I'm not eligible for a replacement. If this is a safety concern and recall of sorts, why wouldn't all adapters qualify?
Check with who you bought it from. I received two and A2Z offered me (and everyone else receiving two) the ability to resell it with warranty for $100 USD. If your seller didn’t pay A2Z then you don’t have a warranty with them.
