I tend to drive around like an old man with my blinker on for miles more with this vehicle than any other.

When changing lanes I hold it down halfway until I start the lane Chang then let go, seems to be about the right amount of time doing it this way, at least for me.

Does anyone else wish it was 5 blinks instead of 3? Only 3 may not be enough time to signal before initiating a turn or lane change.
I’m good with 3 blinks for normal changes and 5 if a trailer it connected. Ram trucks use to do this, unsure if they still do.

I didn’t think BMWs came with turn signals. At least I haven’t seen one used on a BMW in a long time!

I kid I kid. Well mostly.
Everytime I’m driving my wife’s i4 and I do something dumb in traffic on accident or park like crap I tell her “That’s okay I’m driving a BMW”. I do then proceed to fix the parking if that was the problem as I can’t stand people who don’t know how to park in parking lots.

My 2010 BMW 335d (E90) has turn signals very much like my 2022 R1T. They are not mechanically coupled with the steering column, but electronically coupled with wheel position sensors. A lot of folks customize the cars’ coding and plenty of third party apps are available to assist that. My favorite code modification was to change the lane change from three blinks to five. I would love to have this as an option in settings.

There's two modes:
1/2 way = 3 blinks
all the way = stays on

This is similar to most cars made in about the past decade or so
Your reply explains why I had such a hard time learning the turn signal.
My spare truck is a 2012 Frontier with 270 k on it. No new cars in the last decade. I think I just got it figured out now, with 59 k on my Red Canyon R1t.

Now maybe you can help me with all the colored buttons, grey ones, black ones arrows, autos and icons making up the HVAC controls. I pretty much got it figured out that the paw print has something to do with my dog who is always along.

My Teslas do.
My 2021 Tesla MY did not do this when new, but the functionality was added in the last 1.5 years or so.

Same here so Rivian should be able to add this OTA. The vehicle knows when a lane change occurs so this should not be difficult to implement.

Kind of with you. My KIa Telluride allows you program either 3, 4 or 5 blinks for a half push. I usually leave it on 5, but sometimes change to 3 for city driving. I have to think that Rivian could add this same feature relatively easily via a software revision and OTA update.

I'm 100% with the OP on this one. I find the turn signals utterly frustrating. I'm positive my past vehicles would all turn the signal light off once a lane change was complete, the same way it turns if off after you complete a turn. It feels like the Rivian requires a far more significant turn of the wheels before it's willing to recognize it as a turn that justifies turning off the signal once complete.

I fully agree that you should be able to use the full "stay on" turn signal for a lane change and the vehicle should be able to recognize when the lane change is done and turn the darn thing off!
