I was just wondering if anyone else thought that the language or tone as to how this statement was made did it sound arrogant or overbearing to you? Here is the quote

“We have been really very clear since day one that connectivity was offered as a free trial for our customers and that it eventually would be paid.”
- Bensaid Wassym, Chief Software Officer, Rivian ,

my “ beef”
is when you announce the crome cast info display videos content with the Connectability in the May announcement.
why are we still waiting and we’re more than willing to pay for that?
I mean, really I subscribed to the service and found out it was a no go, and it was a waste of my effort and subscription which I had to cancel with the Chromecast

Possibly, but I don’t know who has the question it was just a printed statement. I read off the Internet today to me The impression I take is sidestepping

Rivian does monitor forums, including Reddit and our little wing of the asylum. It sounds like a response to the same stuff we are reading here - complaints from people who can’t be bothered to research a vehicle they buy and don’t know that Rivian was calling this a membership from day 1 and made it clear it would cost money at some point in the future….

Because internet connectivity was an absolutely essential feature that had to be built-in from the get go, and also is very reasonable to charge for. (Whether you pay for Connect+ or not, you’re still using the basic functionality when your vehicle reports data back to Rivian, or software updates get pushed out to those who don’t or can’t keep their vehicle on WiFi.)

Chrome Cast, on the other hand, is an entirely non-essential feature that not everybody wants or will use, that is entirely unrelated to the overall functionality of the vehicle, makes no sense to charge for, and introduces new potential safety and liability concerns.

I remember seeing that connectivity was only included for a limited time back before the first vehicle rolled off the assembly line.

I don’t know why this is a surprise to anyone.

This was well before anyone had a concept of a plan about screen casting.

If our customers could read, they would not be really upset!

Of course I can read, and Wassym's response is ambiguous, such that the Connect+ trial could end before they released these new features.

If I were a Rivian executive I would be thinking we should have just charged for the LTE connection from the start and we wouldn’t have to deal with this shit now.

I’m just a gimme sort of guy give me give me I want it now.
I really don’t care whether I have to pay for the connectivity plus or not.
I already paid 117k for the car anyway. and did I say that was with no perks that was the second Rivian for the household and with no free charging at all and no lower foundation purchase price,
And I love it.
I love the car.
I love its performance. I love it range. It’s been great to me so far I cannot complain it all IAnd I love it.

It’s been great to me so far I cannot complain it all I have driven through flooded waters..

I just thought the language seemed a little harsh because yeah OK we do know.
but the issue of this whole video streaming that’s all I want.
You said it was out com and May give it to me .that’s all I’m saying it give me besides that I’ll be looking forward to getting my second Rivian we already have two at the house a R1S and an R1T, I want that R3.
But I will say the price tag of 45k for the R2 does sound nice

Underrated point - Rivian still pays for your vehicle to be connected to the internet via cellular even if you don’t. There’s no reason to believe that won’t be the case for perpetuity and that’s surely an additional cost for them. Not sure if any other companies do this, but Toyota and Subaru charge a significant monthly fee just to have remote start. Compared to that nonsense, Connect+ is a bargain.

I’ve said it before, if so many people are confused, their initial statements were probably unclear.

This current statement reeks of “thou does protest too much.”

They will end up extending folks for free and then move on.

You do not need Connect+ to use Chrome Cast. Never did, never will. Chrome Cast just sends video from your phone to another display. Even if you’re in a cell dead zone, you can use it to play already downloaded content. As with every single other feature enabled by Connect+ (other than priority software updates, which I wouldn’t really consider a feature), if you just create a hotspot from your phone, and connect your Rivian to that, you should be able to use Chrome Cast, because everything will be on the same WiFi network.

Look at BMW's ConnectedDrive price matrix if you really want to make your head hurt. ?
