True, but…

Rivian designers clearly don’t want a keyhole showing and I’ve never seen ICE cars from a long time ago which have this style of door handle.

Seriously, the exact problem which Rivian was seemingly unable to solve was, in fact, solved by Hyundai Kia. Of course, it wouldn’t be the first time Rivian dug their heels in when it comes to resisting existing solutions.

Yeah, one of MANY short-sighted design decisions since they apparently didn't think about what a p.i.t.a. it would be for your 12V battery die and have your door handles inoperable in the rain!

And just to make it even more exciting to deal with....they decided to lock the 12v inside the cabin under a seat with no manual way in...in the G2.

I'm hanging my hat on another American-made EV startup that has displayed at least a dozen design decisions/philosophies that are superior to Rivian R1 which addresses every stupid design decision that I hate about my R1S.

My only concern is that it will using Rivian software that includes even more stupid user experience design decisions.

I thought about asking about it and the unheated headlights but it was an AMA with Wassym who is the software head...
Would love an AMA with the mechanical design and service heads...

Scout is not a true startup like Tesla, Rivian, and Lucid. Scout is a new incarnation of a former American brand which is now owned by the Volkswagen Group. Volkswagen also makes ID.4s in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

I’m not speculating on VW engineering and design decisions factoring into the Scout’s design, but going by information I learned from someone who works for Scout. If you think about it logically, the only reason you have a concern about Rivian’s software in a Scout is because VW is sharing engineering expertise and tech with Scout. This is rational since sharing expertise and resources across brands increases profitability.

The US is likely the largest market for Scout and VW is understandably trying really, REALLY hard to red-white-and-blue-wash their Scout brand. It is worth keeping in mind that Scout is owned by VW and VW is the company whose engineering decisions brought us Dieselgate and, as a result, Electrify America. With America in the name, this was another, less-nuanced attempt to tie a VW subsidiary to the USA.

The main concern about Scout using Rivian software is that it SUCKS!

Well aware of the Scout history but definitely seems like it is being treated as an American start up with VW Group financial backing.

Well aware of dieselgate and EA history but let us not forget that VW Group also owns Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, and Bentley, all of which operates as pretty independent subsidiaries, and ALL of which have MUCH better design decisions (especially interiors) than Rivian.

Fingers crossed that Scout will deliver as advertised.
