99% of the reason is for when sitting 40 minutes while charging on road trips.
I guess. I just do not find myself in that situation often. When I do, I get out of the car and wander around or do something on my phone. Surprisingly, the time seems to pass pretty quickly. If I knew I was road tripping and going to find myself in that situation a lot, I’d probably just take my iPad along. I get that some might find these features useful and clearly a fair amount do. It’s just not a priority for me.

You folks must live somewhere warm and also not have kids. Between November and April at the 44th parallel or above, you aren’t really enjoying random outings while charging on trips. Especially since half the superchargers are in random strip malls…

I hear ya. When I was young my dad was in the Air Force and stationed at Loring AFB, at the very northern tip of Maine. So, yeah, it was damn cold in the winter! -20Âş and below was not uncommon. Definitely not going for a stroll in those conditions. However, as kids, we became almost immune to cold weather. Heck, when it got up to about +20Âş, it was almost t-shirt weather ?

Haha, my youngest was born here and that’s him, he never wears shoes.

Since loring is closed, they use it to store excess potatoes in the winter some years now!

48N here, and quite temperate thank you (65 degrees right now...). That's about 275 miles north of you. The east coast isn't the center of the world you know ...

I've never made a "random outing" while charging - in fact, I choose my stops specifically with the services in mind, whether that's a nearby restroom or store or food, etc. After sitting behind the wheel driving for hours, the last thing I want to be doing is some more sitting watching a screen while charging. I plan to charge while I'm doing other things, rather than needing to find something to do while charging.

Anyone have any thoughts on why Netflix isn't allowed? Fairly large platform to leave out

I felt similar when Tesla started to add a lot of these same features. I agree they’re not priority, but it’s another entertainment option.

That restriction has been put in place by Netflix, not Rivian. Netflix doesn't let you mirror your display to a remote service. Contact Netflix to ask them why they don't allow Chromecast of their content to a display on your local network - I'm sure there doing that in their effort to crack down on shared logins for Netflix access.

I wonder if you can just use screen mirroring from your phone. This works for me with Netflix onto other devices.

This update does not include screen mirroring. Rivian has never indicated that it plans on providing this feature at all.

Chromecast works by actually becoming the device that connects to the server and pulls down the content; you just control it with your phone. With chromecast, Netflix sees the device being "cast to" as an unauthorized user and blocks it. Pretty shitty thing to do because they're paranoid of account sharing and don't want to put the effort into distinguishing a chromecast device from another person somewhere who is using your credentials.

it will come in time. If peloton can make it happen on an android device, Rivian can too.

Nor is the west coast but many more live near the east coast so natural for that to be the focus.

Took delivery of an R1T TriMax in mid November and I'm still on 2024.39.32 (and haven't been pushed .43 per RivianRoamer).

I'm assuming at this point that I'll be going straight to the holiday update. Is this typical?
