Can anyone confirm that the function of the steering wheel heater on Gen 2 is to initially get hot, then cycle between warm and off for the remaining time? This is how mine has functioned even after 2 service appointments: replacing the steering wheel on appointment 1 and a module on appointment 2.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
This is the behavior of pretty much all of our Gen1s, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a carryover to G2.

Same here. GEN1. I created a ticket for this - mostly so Rivian will know, it is not ok. I do not know how they can screw up so many small things at once. Anyway, so many issues were supposed to be addressed in Gen2 and were forgotten by Rivian... Or they just have a stock of steering wheels and do not want to spend money on updating it.

My G1 actually works pretty good. It isn't as strong as our Jeeps...those things will almost burn hands I swear...

Same with seats...Jeep put strong elements in those too. But Rivians are adequate in my G1.

The problem with Rivian steering wheel heater it will heat the wheel very fast *and good temp) but then disengage for 5-7 min, then it will start heating again for 1 min and cycle will go on. These 5-7 min the wheel will become cold/slightly warm.

I do notice some of that but overall I would say mine seems to be pretty decent.

Yeah, same here. It definitely cycles differently than my Tesla, but generally works ok. I just wish it would stay selected after I park so it turns on when I get back in the car.

Yes! Definitely wish the settings would persist! And even be able to auto trigger below some user setpoint when remote start or just get in.

Thanks for all your feedback. Anyone else with Gen 2 confirm this behavior?

I can confirm this is the behavior of my brand new gen2. It gets warm then waits until the steering wheel is legitimately cold in some spots and warm nowhere before it warms up again. Verified with the tech this is expected behavior. It kind of sucks really.

Yeah I have found I just click it off and on again and it seems to work better (maybe just goes to the early part of the cycle).

And I really enjoy the vehicle and would not switch it out for anything on the market, but Gen2 folks, you are also beta testers. We are talking only 100,000 in with amazon vans. It will take time.

Unfortunately they won't get better at servicing under the current model.

And I still love these things!

That is how mine is, it initially gets very warm, almost too hot. Then starts cycling between room temp and slightly warm. I actually love it. My 21 e-tron would heat the wheel uncomfortably hot until I found how to reprogram the set point to something reasonable.

Did the E-Tron only have on/off? All vehicles I have owned had 3 settings so genuinely curious.

Edit...I was thinking seats....all vehicles I have had with heated steering wheels were just on/off too.

Yep, On or off, no settings in car. Had to use a scan tool type dongle to reprogram the set point. Would be nice if Audi or Rivian had 2 or 3 levels like the seats. These are the only 2 vehicles I've had with heated steering wheels at all.
