What surrounding vehicles should I be seeing on Gen 2 driver's display?

My Gen 2 R1S was delivered September 2024 with some sensor issues that would intermittently pop up and sometimes get resolved. On delivery, the driver's display would show cars ahead, beside, and behind me, along with motorcycles and pedestrians. When I would drive on a narrow street with cars parked on either side, it would show all the parked cars, in a semi-straight line, that looked a little like a zombie apocalypse had occurred. Overall it was a a bit of a mess, but remarkable that the various sensors and cams were picking up so much data.

Then after a few updates, almost all cars have disappeared, except for the vehicle directly in front of me. My sensor issues have persisted, and my rear corner and blind spot warning system finally decided to work after Thanksgiving, but still no surrounding cars or pedestrians. So I don't know what I'm currently supposed to see on the display, resulting from all the sensor issues and system updates that have happened since delivery.

My 3 month wait for a service center appointment is almost here, but I would like to know what I should be seeing on the display so I can be sure to communicate it to the SC (San Diego/Miramar) and figure out what sensors may be failing or need calibration, etc. My assumption is that they cleaned up the display to remove parked cars and other non-essential vehicles, but I would still like cars beside and behind me shown.

Any current observations would be appreciated, Thanks!

My Gen 1 has always sucked. It never shows cars in my blind spot or behind me....Totally useless for the last 2 years.

On a Gen two you should see all the cars in the lanes directly next to you, including the cars behind you.

I have a Gen2 R1S delivered in August, this is a problem I've had as well. Initially everything worked fine until an update. Then all the cars disappeared except the one in front accompanied by a "front radar sensors blocked" warning. First service visit took about 3 weeks where they troubleshoot and had engineers down from Normal. Decided it was a rare bug to be fixed in a future update, but they did a patch to get rid of the error notification. Waited a few updates took some more diagnostic logs and called Rivian again, said it looked like a different issue so brought back in. They did calibrations on all the cameras replaced some items, but after a few weeks (they had the vehicle 4 weeks total this second visit) it still persisted, so they started tracing and checking all the wiring harnesses. Found a bad wire from one of the side view mirror cameras. Had to order a new side view mirror assembly and viola, it work. I was seeing all the vehicles (as mentioned above, front sides, behind, plus getting all the visibility to pedestrians, etc). However, about a month later in December I started getting a prox sensor (back up sensors) not working notification that was intermittent, and would occasionally be accompanied by a new front sensor notification "front sensors not working, drivers assistance features limited" notification. Again all of which are intermittent. Sometimes individual, sometimes together, sometimes not at all. The vehicle has its third SC appointment coming up this week to diagnose.

I’ve only ever driven mine, so I’ve wondered this on the Gen 1. Basically anything even with or forward of my windshield wipers will show on the screen. Behind that, nothing. I’ve taken videos where I’m right next to an 18 wheeler and the screen shows nothing there (but the mirror blind spot light will be on). I’ve wondered if I’m abnormal and if this has something to do with my Highway Assist not working if so.

This is working as expected unfortunately: the gen1 uses an old mobileye system for all of its adas functionality - the only sensor that’s in use really is the one embedded into the windscreen infront of the rear-view mirror. There’s lots of threads on this if you go digging, but be warned it’s a contentious rabbit hole :)

Got it, thanks. Can’t wait to see what the actual issue is then when the service date finally gets here…
