That's a VERY SILENT no on both counts unfortunately. I speak with my guide every week and, even after I flat out said they wouldn't meet the timeframe they set, he still wouldn't confirm it. He mentioned that he wouldn't even know when my truck would be ready until it was already built and ready to finish the final paperwork. Seems like I don't really even get a chance to finalize my build?
Hey! It’s still October for *checks watch* for another 3 hours!! They can still make their deadline for you!! Stop all of the FUD!! /s

No, but seriously that sucks. I would be pissed if I had a guide that was telling me that up until this month. I haven’t even been contacted by a guide for my LE R1T, and we’re all supposed to be contacted by Thanksgiving, which is not going to happen. I have a feeling that none of us are getting our vehicles until mid-late next year at the earliest.

Whoever in is in charge of their marketing department and customer engagement sucks. I’m very disappointed in how they’ve been communicating. I’ve seen better engagement from Lucid, Ford, Hyundai, and almost every other auto maker besides Tesla, who sucks too.

What about my toast?!?
Here’s where we should be right now.

finalizing orders, building trucks like crazy, staging parking lots full, a big line of semi trucks loaded, loading and underway.

all of this is way better than company videos of speakers etc.

That's just fucking terrible customer service . Rivian should be ashamed
Unfortunately this is consistent with Rivian. Someone on Reddit with a guide couldn't get the guide to tell him the payload capacity. He had to get a picture of the stamp on the truck in at the Venice Center. And the response after the fact wasn't even apologetic or that they'd do better. Just that they were sorry he had to find out from not Rivian. The customer had even been very explicitly that he was worried about payload for what he tows with the tongue weight.

In general, the CS experience of Rivian feels a bit to me like the worst type of car sales person, which I find very confusing given RJs personality and how he proactively did not upsell Ducktruck.

At the end of the day, if I end up not getting or delay getting a Rivian it will probably be because of communication/CS, and not the actual truck itself.

OH, and because I'm currently trying riled up over it, the ineptitude of Congress is a close second for reasons I may not buy a Rivian.

This does not surprise me sadly. After the S1 was released and there was mention of February timeline for Transport Canada approvals and the December) January R1S delivery I reached out to CS (and quoted their S1 filing) asking for clarification on Canadian delivery timelines.

Response was that Canadian deliveries of both R1T and R1S will begin in November. No change in timeline.

No way that is true. If only they would just communicate that. But no. This was just CS....

But to go silent on someone who was told by their guide an Oct delivery? That's crazy.

It's really too bad that Rivian isn't leaning into the crowd-pleasing/good-will-building/established-industry-disrupting mold. They've gone corpo in record time. I blame the Amazon vans that are probably pushing consumer vehicles into side-hustle territory.

Generally speaking RIVIAN is piss poor when it comes to communication with customers, and it seems as if they are trying harder to hide the information lol

But I hope you get your truck very soon!

I don't run it has anything to do with Amazon. Thats just passing the blame to the company that we aren't emotionally attached to.

A lot of us are likely in this boat. It doesn’t seem like they are even doing guide contacts at all at this point. At least I am not aware of any new guide contacts since the first few they did earlier this year.

I remember posting something just like this after the delay from July to "September" and having people jump all over me.

At the end of the day, there hasn't been a single solitary example of good general customer service or communications from Rivian. Sure, they have done excellent (very) small scale events, but those don't translate at all to a larger audience such as the quantity of preorder holders or the quantity of people that they want to sell to. Not everyone gets to be @DuckTruck, unfortunately.

Combine that with the fact they have blown delivery dates over (2019/2020) and over (late 2020) and over (June 2021) and over (July 2021) and over (current committed delivery dates) and the trend is really, really troubling.

I'm really hoping the trucks are lights-out great, because if they aren't the likelihood of Rivian doing something from a product or communication perspective to fix it doesn't seem high at this point.

Also, this ain't good either:

I know at least two Tesla owners that were in minor fender benders and their Model S was totalled by the insurance company due to lack of spare parts. They were unable to get relatively inexpensive parts and had to write it off as a total loss.

I expect insurance companies to remember this and rates will be based on limited repairability.

Being the owner of a Model S, I feel this in the insurance rates that I pay.

This is a shitty, anti-consumer policy if it turns out to be accurate. I'm hopeful there will be organizations able to purchase parts and in turn retail them to customers.

Yeah. I saw that too. If that's the stance they're going to take, I'm not finalizing my purchase. I very likely woll not do any work on one myself, but I very much support right to repair.

The last part is unbelievable. I keep reading it to make sure I didn't misunderstand it. Is this for real???? It would only make sense to speak to you about finalizing your build first. It seems the guides have no clue just like CS. The June guide contacts were truly a charade. They are leading all of those people on.

The Amazon comparison is apt. To me it feels like the RIVN-AMZN relationship has infected RIVN with AMZN toxicity.

I can almost smell Bezos smelly fingerprints…
