Got the MS email, created account, requested the max avail shares (175), waited for confirmation email from MS that acct was created, set up ACH linking with my BofA account.

I put in my interest for the full 175. Should we fund the account now for the approximate value or will there be sufficient time to ACH transfer at the time of sale?
To answer the above, once you create the ACH linking, you get an email from MS that states that you only need to fund the acct once allocation has ben confirmed. I'd expect another followup email from MS.

So one has to share all your personal info and open up a Morgan Stanley account for $10K?

This kinda feels like more token hypebeast.

Just sayin, thanks for playin.

I'm not sure how else this would/could work. What did you have in mind, or what were you hoping for?

Here's hoping these shares pay for the truck by the time delivery happens.

No, you don't have to play. And yes, you do have to pay for the shares.

Not sure how you think you can buy shares of anything without providing personal information. If you read the info from Morgan Stanley or the posts in this thread, there is no need to fund the account until after the price is established and you confirm the number of shares you want to purchase (Nov 9th between 5PM and 11:59PM). They do recommend establishing the ACH connection ahead of time.

If you want to sell in the MS account, it will run you $.01 per share. No charge to transfer to another brokerage account

Its funny, I was kind of waffling about how much to buy. I decided on 10k this week. I'm a little bearish on the delays/tax credit changes/competitors coming to market.

If this would've hit this time last year ahead of Lucid and Lightning they'd have crushed it...and following the 2020-21 market would've been nice.

This is a buy and hold for me. Hopefully that 10k will be worth 50-75 in 5 years. I was originally hopeful that the IPO and a bit of time could pay for the truck itself but doesn't seem to be that way.

Guess you'll just have to hope the IPO takes a dump right away because the market things RIVN is overvalued

^My bad, just grumpy.

It felt like 175 shares was hardly worth the carpetbomb of investment sales pitches from another advisor. Likely they will far exceed Rivian vehicle communucations.

I’ll go back to waiting patiently for a vehicle.

TSLA has shot up over 1900% since early October 2018. A $10k investment then would be worth $200k today, just three years later. I'm not saying that RIVN will perform anywhere near that well, just that $10k in the IPO round has substantial potential. Multiplied by the number of pre-order holders they opened this up to, that's a significant chunk of the IPO that would normally be used by big firms to placate their highest net worth customers that we all got access to.

This could be the lowest their stock ever prices. Or they could take a nose dive and go on sale some time over the next couple years. But I expect they will do well long-term and am quite happy to have the opportunity to buy in the round rather than try to get in during the opening day frenzy.

Being grumpy is usually my job on these forums. I appreciate you taking some of the burden off my shoulders :)

Finally got my email and just finished the application process, pretty much the usual process one goes through to open any investment account. And they don't ask to fund your account right away, so it appears to be pretty straight forward and fair.

Sorry if this was posted elsewhere, but got to step 7 (of 10) and read the last instructions... setting a calendar reminder for November 9th - only a 7-hour window to confirm or your interest is cancelled! Crap, that's a busy time of day for me on PST.

Important Next Steps and Information:
  • The completion of this application process will serve only as an indication of interest to purchase shares in the Rivian Automotive Inc. Program and is not an offer to purchase shares or an obligation for Morgan Stanley to place shares with you.
  • Once the Rivian Automotive Inc. initial public offering has priced and its registration statement is declared effective by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, Morgan Stanley will send you an email regarding the final pricing of the offering. The offering is currently expected to price any time after 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on November 09, 2021. This date and time are subject to change.
  • The pricing email will contain the final offering price and reiterate the procedure for confirming your allocation of shares. Upon receipt of the pricing email, this website will be enabled to accept confirmations. If you wish to purchase shares in the Rivian Automotive Inc. Program, you must return to this website and complete the confirmation process by November 09, 2021, 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
  • If you do not confirm your order by the stated deadline, your indication of interest will be canceled and no shares will be allocated to you through the Program.

Here is a fun report with some historics but keep in mind we’re sort of back to dot-com era with essentially made up values. TSLA’s P/E is pushing $400 while AAPL’s is $30. Rivian is also granting $500m to its ESG 501c4 which is nice on one hand but on the other it shows the jackpot they are planning to hit at IPO.

Just a year ago Rivian’s private raise was half of what it’s going to IPO. I’ll almost certainly get the 175 shares offered but it’s probably only a 50% chance that it’s at IPO value 12-mos from now. I also miss Vegas so why not. https://site.warrington.ufl.edu/ritter/files/IPO-Statistics.pdf
