Godfodder, what is your order number? Seems like not just a small delay but a massive one. Very surprising.

I was just told by my Guide today that my new estimated delivery is by the end of February, 2022. Changed from October, 2021. *Supply chain constraints were quoted as the number one contributor.
What I’m not sure I understand is that it has been said (and I’m sorry I can’t remember where I saw it but definitely remember it because it struck me as odd), but they said their chip was not the chip that the other manufacturers were waiting on, and that it was manufactured by another company that was not facing the constrains. unless it’s lithium which is the culprit which I guess could make sense and thinking about it now RJ did mention that awhile ago. but gosh, he pushed through it and still mentioned numbers in the S1 that still gave us hope and sadly it’s getting dashed to bits, just really hard to take Right now sorry my friends.

Wow, a 4-5+ month delay for their first non-employee deliveries? And only conveyed after their deadline? That's incredibly shitty of Rivian.

I can't imagine they're delaying their first orders by that much just to fulfill other orders, that wouldn't make sense. So who are they planning to deliver those 1000+ S-1 indicated orders to? All employees? That'd be wild. Kinda makes me rethink wanting to buy IPO shares.

It does make sense why Rivian isn't talking about or addressing their launch at all now.

As of 2 hours ago I was still considering buying shares. That is no longer the case. I really do hope Rivian survives and look forward to attempting to complete a purchase of both an R1T and R1S at some point in the next ?2?? years.

However, as many have said the market doesn't tolerate missing targets OVER AND OVER AND OVER regardless of the reason. Part of having a competent management team is being able to forecast. Underpromise and overdeliver is standard C-suite behavior in terms of forward guidance. Haven't seen anything approaching that in the last 2 years.

Fixed it for you!
I’m curious as to your opinion: do you think your preorder is higher priority than the employees who built the car itself over the past 10 years? And that paying employees should not be given their cars so that someone who reserved after them, like yourself, could?

I get people are frustrated but I think this idea that they should somehow be able to account for the mess that is the global pandemic and all the issues around that is laughable. I would venture to guess these slips were wholly unavoidable.

now, where I think is completely fair to take them to task is in the area of proactive communication. Clearly they knew they were going to miss these dates before today, and the fact you had to reach out to get the official word is inexcusable. Research has consistently shown people are much more tolerant of delays when communication is high and much less when it’s low.

For those of you that changed your minds on DSP, I'll just point out that Rivian will hit their targets as stated in the S-1. The general market will not know that a guide updated a delivery timeframe for a customer.

Just something to think about if you're looking at it from the standpoint of your standard investor, instead of an enthusiast forum member.

Yep. Tesla never had any delays OVER AND OVER AND OVER. Pretty sure their stock has tanked and they will be bankrupt soon.

I mostly agree with you here but would caution Rivian to work on their communications.

These forums show up when searching Rivian online, they are also frequently referenced by online car reviewers and bloggers.

It is not a stretch to think that the negativity on these forums could hurt sales and investor excitement ultimately negatively impacting the company.

Is this another “torches and pitchforks” thread?

One of the employees that received their truck recently only ordered in June of this year based on posts on their IG. I would say that anyone who ordered in June 2021 should not be first priority, emp or not.
