What would be the upside to arguing against that rating on a RIVIAN forum?

Not trying to be mean, but just keeping it real....
The point being made is about the hypocrisy of it all. You can't praise CR for the data you like and then bash them and say they are useless and irrelevant for the data you don't like.

Why do you assume it's the same people making the comments?

My R1S is the clunkiest vehicle I have ever owned. From loud clunks and rattles going over bumps to wind noise. Half shaft clunking in stop and go traffic. Getting pretty tired of SC visits and it’s either “normal" or a new problem pops up. BUT it has been reliable. Its never left me stranded.

For a 100k+ vehicle I would expect better. Unless Rivian ups their game substantially, I’ll probably not own another. I still love to drive it though.
Reliability isn't just about not leaving people stranded. It's about all the issues that people experience during their ownership. Have you ever looked at a CR Reliability Survey?

How much would you bet that I can't find people in this very forum who praised CR and bashed CR for the way they rated Rivian?

No, I don’t read CR nor do I care too.

I had one issue in 12 years with my GTI. CR ranked it last with a full black circle. Probably the most reliable car I’ve owned and I’ve had multiple Toyotas and Hondas. CR used to be good but as cars got more reliable they have failed in determining the differences in cars.
I hear you and I agree, but one car is a pretty much irrelevant. My current Audi and Jeep have not yet had a single issue. And the Audi is pretty modified and makes more than double it's original horsepower. Neither of those vehicles are known for reliability, although Audi has been more towards the top of the list for a while now. Still though, my own vehicles don't mean much compared to the averages.

I'm not concerned at all though...I buy what I like, not what's supposedly the most reliable. Life is too short to drive boring cars. ?

That makes sense. And that's why you just posted a bunch of reasons why your Rivian is unreliable without even realizing it. The stranded thing is just one aspect of reliability. All the other issues you mentioned are also factors in overall reliability.

And FWIW, most modern vehicles have all kinds of ways to prevent stranding people on the side of the road. They fall under "limp home" mode. It's pretty rare these days for any modern vehicles to leave you stranded on the side of the road. Can it happen? Of course. Is it rare? Very much so.

Then do it. Until you support your argument it’s conjecture.

With all of the talk and swirl around Rivian reliability I decided to just look at my invoices. Trying to remove my own bias given we have an R1S as well. My QM R1T w/ ATs was delivered March 2023. Of all of the items listed below, not one made my truck inoperable. I will say I HAVE NOT driven it off road/ hard so maybe that is why I am still pleasantly surprised by the reliability of this new car company.

Below are notes from the invoices on my Rivian app:

R1T
- Dec 2024 jounce lines fixed
- Nov 2024 complimentary portable charger fix and reported jounce lines
- Dec 2023 window calibration due to wind noise
- August 2024 spare tire compartment intermittent didn’t open
- May 2023 alignment fixed
- Mar 2020 just after delivery, reported alignment and small piece of foam sticking up on the dashboard

2023 QM R1S purchased used Jul 2024
- Mar 2025 seat warmer issue/warning
- Feb 25 wheel nut/screws “campaign”
- Jan 2025 3rd row seat-back flap partially torn and was replaced

Of note I have had several sports cars that had much more significant issues.

If I’m being realistic, we are just 2 years in so lots of opportunity for issues arise but so far I’m very happy!

This forum is wild to me. I constantly see posts complaining about various issues, failures, and problems on their Rivian. Every month is a new thread complaining about service centers being backed up months to get an appointment to get anything fixed. Then as soon as any media organization claims Rivian has low reliability, Rivian owners grab their pitchforks and mob together.
People who complain about their Riv are the squeaky wheels on this forum. People who have zero issues(like me) are unlikely to post about not having any issues.

I've had my R1T since 12/22 and it's been in the shop once for a minor suspension issue. That's pretty good for a totally new vehicle, from a new builder. The important thing is that it gets me to my destination and doesn't leave me stranded,
I have to say that I was a bit surprised and disappointed to see CR's poor ranking, but predictions based on opinions aren't hard data, and are not an indication that the Rivian is a pile of junk. I've read a number of ratings in CR that I disagree with over the years and some that are way, way off base and totally inaccurate. At the end of the day, they usually get it right.
I think Rivian owners act the way people do when kids act when someone picks on their siblings. Sure, they hate them at times, and criticize them constantly, but damned if anyone else is going to.
I will say that most of the people I've encountered that are pointing to the CR ranking are people that, based solely on their politics, would never buy an EV to begin with.
