I know a hack to get it much cheaper (sometimes even free), but it’s ridiculous even for Hawaii.

Prices are usually set by whoever owns the site. In this case it’s a Hyundai dealership.

Do we know if Rivian sets the prices at RAN’s or if it’s the landowner on which the RAN is located?

In Europe they pay way more for gas. Public charging is what it is, where do you charge 90% of the time? Personally I am using my home system which is also powered by solar. Yes public is expensive but over the cost of a year my cost per mile is way less.

Instead of cherry-picking a single charge, I actually track the fuel (both gas and electrons) for our Rivian R1S, my wife’s LR D5 and my son’s JL Wrangler. In 32,632 miles in our Rivian, the fuel cost has been $0.088/mi. For our ICE vehicles, they average $0.196/mi. For those 32,632 miles (across 18 months - lots of DCFC) it has cost us $2,872. If we’d driven one of our ICE vehicles for those miles instead, it would have cost us $6,396. So we’ve saved $3,524. In a car that does 0-60 in 3s, runs an 11sec quarter mile, can do the Rubicon stock and also seat 7.

It’s also this new high rate in TN! It’s now cheaper to seek out Tesla stops even without the membership! $0.10 still at home where I charge 95% of the time…

I've been shopping around for the best gas prices in my area since I learned how to drive. I just do the same with The Rivian and Tesla. This is a thread for people who go to the first charging station or first gas station they see.....i.e People that don't care about price, everyone else will be just fine.

The RAN charger in San Antonio was $0.36 cents in October. I checked today and it is now $0.50 per kWh no peak times listed while the Tesla charger (adapter required but without Tesla membership) less than a mile away is $0.39 per kWh at peak times. I think the original poster has a right to question why Rivian prices have gone up so much across the country. I am curious why also.

Yeah - nope. Same price through the day at my local RAN $0.65/kWh. And I’d not say it’s super busy by any stretch.

Road to profitability. As long as the reliability is high. Most people only use them when traveling.

Yep, better to charge at home if possible. It’s about .16kW in Ohio, so about $8.96 to charge a 80kW battery from 10-80%. Public charging really is just meant for traveling.

Those numbers don’t sound so high to me, we have solar but if not these are our SoCal rates, summer rates peak is 50 cents.

Just did a quick survey of RAN pricing in a 200 mile radius of the house. Prices range from $.36 to $.56. I knew there would be a difference (PA higher than VA) but I did not expect the variation down the I-81 corridor in the Shenandoah valley. Is the price of land the predominant factor? The cost of energy definitely plays a part but the VA RAN should be served by the same power plant.
