this is what Rivian advertised for Gen1 and promised it will come through OTA. i.e reason early build has interior camera to track eyes.

I know the gen 2 R1T/R1S has more cameras that allow it to do more than the gen 1. I would be "satisfied" with a more hands-off self-driving approach. The current version is very annoying because it reminds you every few seconds to touch the steering wheel. I know eyes-off for the gen 1 is not going to happen (I'm not sure I'm ready for eyes-off anyway), but will the gen 1 get hands-off during a future OTA update?

New video on the Rivian youtube channel with RJ demoing the new hands free mode. He makes mention of expanding to operating on surface streets.

No. You won't see any more notable upgrades to Gen 1.

As a Gen 1 owner I'm hoping they add undivided roads to the existing hands on autosteer.

Only half of my 220 mile journey from House #1 to House #2 is covered by the autosteer.

I'm not saying I'm annoyed that hands free didn't become a thing with Gen 1. I am slightly annoyed by that. I'm more concerned with the quality autosteer in NORMAL weather that California people would call adverse weather. It's just a rain.

Would be interesting to have a Gen 1 and a Gen 2 go on the same journey through different roads and different weather to compare notes.

They planned it early on that Gen 1’s WOULD NEVER get Hands Free driving.

Knew it as soon as I traded in my 22 for a 23 and the 23 no longer had the driver monitor camera. No reason for a camera if there’s nothing to monitor…
