forget cracked windshields, who has cracked their front bumper camera?

it’s been snowing for the last week and i got sick of the front camera being mostly blocked with snow and grime. but after cleaning the camera looks like it might be physically cracked? i haven’t hit anything and none of the plastic or other parts seem to have sustained any damage.

what are my odds this can get covered by warranty and how much do you think this tiny plastic lens will cost me?

I'm pretty sure this happened to someone almost 2 years ago and the camera was $1300?

That sucks. I would be quite surprised if they called that a warranty repair. And I am sure it will be annoyingly expensive.

If it’s that much to repair, it might be worth an insurance claim to take some of the sting off. I guess that also depends on your deductible.

I had this happen to me. I'm assuming it was a rock kicked up on the road. The fix for mine was quoted around $800-$900 a year ago (don't remember the exact amount). Comprehensive insurance paid for it since it was a rock that did the damage.

Does anyone make a clear protective cover for the front camera? If not, something like that, or a replacement lens, could be an opportunity for the aftermarket.

True.
But it's also a potential risk as there's calibration with these cameras (if it creates optical aberration at all). Maybe start with some clear film (PPF) and go from there? It's not going to be perfectly protective, but it's a start.

I have seen a couple posts about this phenomenon. Unfortunately, IIRC none of them received warranty coverage. Also unfortunate, and as someone else stated, the replacement is not cheap. I am sorry this happened to you and let us know how you make out.

Yep had it happen and it was +$900 to repair. I tried the protective film but it did not work. Not much can be done to protect it. Bummer

What I do to significantly reduce (it seems to work) the risk of a cracked windshield and consequently damaging this camera and anything else on my R1S for that matter is to as much as possible stay the hell back from the vehicle ahead of me.
Man, what are the odds of something cracking that camera!?

Same situation. I have an appt. in two weeks. Cost now is about $370. I guess it has gone down in cost. Seattle area.

I've been living with mine and blurred vision from that camera for 2 years because of the $1300 charge previously. I can tolerate $370.
